You should... I suggest you take a trip down to sunny florida so you can have a guide... someone who would like in a museum tell you where the magic lies in DT

Have you noticed that Petrucci in MS Paint looks like James Hetfield?

That's just stupid.

This comment is mainly why I felt like posting something here (Nobody had actually commented the quality of the music when King By-Tor wrote this). I'm obviously not interested in DT's music, but reading/understanding and communicating with images is something that interests me. The information I get from that image is more than enough to stay away from the upcoming album, and don't need to waste any precious listeningtime checking it out. Don't you learn anything from experience? Once again: there are exceptions blablabla... but I'm right most of the time.

Your a complete fool for saying such things, I'm going to listen to it and its either going to blow my mind or be interesting or completely lame. An album cover is meaningless, Its about the music not the front cover.

ahem.... look at this picture... what does it tell you about the music inside... would you check it out. Does quality matter a lick if you do not like the style of the music?

which brings me back to this.. .what does this say about the music... Rocky has an interesting theme here... this isn't about bashing DT... what does this picture tell you ... maybe knowing... maybe not what group and album this is... this isn't about bashing DT.. but pointing out where imagery can tell you.. or not tell you what you are going to get musically.

^Mick, the new DT press campaign tells me that they've decided to go cheesy, gothic power metal and get rid of all their Prog tendancies altogether.
Just my point of view, but I'm figuring most other people here feel the same way . . . ?

^Nice cover. The music is probably right up my alley.

Jesus! I'm not saying its about
the front cover (which this isn't)! I'm saying I'm able to read
information from that image based on experience. And if you can't see
it, you're a fool.
I know from the image that ist gonna be
progmetal by DT, and I already know I can't stand them, or the (95% of
what I've heard of the) genre.

yes... and that is what I engaged Teo on earlier.... is it unfair to ... on a Progressive Rock website.. to then question the LACK of progressiveness. Teo did a great job answering that but that is what is interesting here... not simply bashing the group, which few have done. Quality is extremely subjective.. and if quality matttered... we would be reviewing great albums that didn't have a shred of progressiveness in them. That is where DT ..the DT that picture suggests.. might be questioned. Nothing to do with quality... but content. Prog is art... what that picture shows is a group more interested in 'image' than substance...a BIG negative when it comes to prog. What then it the difference with 'Big Hat Country music' or 'Hip-hop'. Or should it be? That is where the discussion could go.. and that is where I am trying to stear it.

I'd just like to add something.... Don't forget that, especially in this day and age, there is a very strong connection between music and visuals. One thing I can tell you is that, when browsing through the shelves of a music store, I often pick up those albums whose cover catches my fancy in some way or the other - and generally because I associate the sleeve design with prog. On the other hand, I steer clear of those albums whose covers and logos suggest a content I may be clearly not interested in.

Oh, I definately agree, however, my idea of good imagery accompanying the music can be seen in band's like Tool, Yes, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, etc. Bands who are able to catch our eye without selling their image along with their art.
DT has, granted, never completely understood this, as all of ther albums have featured their image in some way, but at least the photos we did see of them were tasteful and not nearly as whore-ish as this new pic seems to be.
I was worried with the campaign photos during the SC fan-fare, and my fears ended up being justified. Now I am even more afraid of what I may hear simply based on this photo alone. Not a good thing.

Uh. No idea. They don't flash anything specific genrewise. They seem to want to have a sophisticated, intellectual/artsy look. The people in the photo makes me think they're a band (or whatever) of the 00's, but wants to look from another time (sort of vintage image). That beautiful woman on the left, I know the type. Artsy, alternative with a 70's link, I think.

Indeed! Also, sometimes you can figure out what type of music it is with just looking at the cover(maybe this was mentioned before, right?)

^ Yeah, but personally, I prefer the albums that are a mystery, even with the artwork. I find the best albums I listen to have very unique artwork that describes much for the feekings I get when listening to them rather than the specific genre of the music therein.

^ Mick, if you're being serious, would you care to direct me to whatever band/album this is from? Thanks.
