The Lions are my local team, so unfortunately, I am stuck with them.  I adopted the Miami Dolphins as my favorite non-local team many years ago.  They've been pretty down too in recent years, but it is definitely good to see them play respectable football this year.

Please don't root for the Patriots.  Ever.  Wink

(but yes, Miami has a winning record so far!  Vast improvement)

My rooting for the Dolphins goes back to even before Dan Marino, so there have been some really good years involved, even if the last few have been quite bad.  And as far as New England goes, their now hobbled quarterback did play for my favorite local college football program, so I have generally cheered for them in recent years too.  Although, their winning all of the time has kind of grown old for those of us not out there who have to endure a sucky team year after year.

On Sports Center today, as the anchor finished discussing the latest BCS poll, he transitioned to the NFL:

"We move on now to professional football"

*looks down at paper*

"I'm sorry, I meant to say that we move on now to the Detroit Lions."
LOL

I've been really impressed with Singletary so far coaching the 'Niners.  Benching O'Sullivan and making a very big, very loud statement about how players will perform under him was exactly what this team needed.  QB Shawn Hill really showed to me just how fired up these guys are; in the first half, on third-and-thirteen, they ran a draw play.  Hill picked up about 9, then LEVELED a linebacker, losing his helmet in the process.  Helmetless, he fought off the other two backers and picked up the first.

The games this weekend will go a long, long way in separating the contenders from the herd (starting with Jets/Pats tomorrow night).  If my Cowboys lose to the 'skins Sunday night they might as well start scouting for the 2009 draft and a new head coach.  Or start praying for miracles.  Unless injuries interfere it's going to be a Titans/Giants superbowl and that won't be half bad.

Jerry Jones will probably just declare himself head coach in addition to owner, president, CEO, and GM.

Jeez, don't even whisper that.  He's an arrogant jerk but even he knows better than to go there.  (shudders)  Dead

I should just copy and paste one of the previous 4 weeks of disappointed posts regarding the Chiefs because it's all a broken freakin' record.

About the only positive thing was in honor of Veteran's Day this past week, the Stealth Bomber (stationed at nearby Whitemen AFB) did a fly over at Arrowhead. We're located about 20 to 25 minutes north of the stadium and heard a low roar. We run outside and to the north we see the distinguishable outline of the Stealth gliding by. I tell ya, nothing gets the hairs on the back of my neck a tinglin' than to see a state-of-the-art military aircraft. Pretty darn cool.

Antoine, the AFC West played the NFC North last year, with Detroit winning 25-20. Scott's one up on me there, I suppose.

Well my local Seahawks are now officially done for the year.  Too bad, given it's Holmgren's last year here.  They had a pretty good run -- 4 years in the playoffs, never with entirely satisfactory results.  Eh, a good draft choice is in the offing.

No such luck; Detroit has one of the hardest schedules in football left.

Detroit played Carolina tough today.  They could have tied it in the 4th quarter.  They scored a touchdown to make it 24-22.  They went for 2 points and Culpepper was tackled by the face mask at the 1 yard line.  The officials didn't make the call.  Unfortunately, Detroit got the ball back later, and Culpepper threw the ball to the wrong uniform.  Carolina scored a touchdown to take a 9 point lead and seal the victory.  Not a big surprise, but another case of close but no cigar.

^ we keep getting closer and closer to that ever elusive cigar but i think for the first time in history the lions will have nothing to smoke at the end of the year. OMG DRAFT PICKS AMIRITE!?!?!?
the second half of our schedule is going to destroy us though im holding out hope for the second minnisota game. maybe we'll finally get a win there.
cant believe i associate myself with this team. i say put in drew stanton. he played great last time they put him in. give culpepper a chance to adjust instead of throwing him in the first chance you get.

Cowboys showed some grit for a change.  Hope springs eternal.

GIANTS!!!!!!!!!   9-1

I was impressed from both sides. The Giants O-line dominated, and they're running game (against the Ravens D no less) was amazing.
And that Joe Flacco really is something.

Go G-Men
