Just got an interesting 2 CD release from Ukrainian artist Sunchild aka Antony Kalugin Project called The Gnomon. An excellent hour and a half of symphonic prog with tons of guitars, trumpets, cello, oboe as well as great bass and drums. The vocals , as usual with prog,  are acceptably good but not first rate (rarely are) . Does anyone out there know of this project? Igor, this should be in your neck of the woods! LOL

On what label? It sounds very interesting to me. Do you know ER J Orchestra, also from Ukraine? They are very much like Pat Metheny (but without guitar as a central instrument), so leaning to the jazz side, but some very nice music.

Label is Caerllysi Music . I got it in a Montreal prog store. I do not know of the other Ukrainian band. I am actually in Saskatchewan on business , a place that has a big Uke community

thanks for the info.
You can download an entire album, free by Er J Orchestra at their site: http://www.erjorchestra.kiev.ua/

The Fromuz website has been down for several months, but is on a new server and up and running again. If anyone knows of a discussion anywhere else on Prog Archives where folks might want to know about the upcoming album or art or just the band in general, we'd much appreciate your passing it along!

Not yet, but I'm guessing it'll either be late August or early September. I"m just getting the band website back up and will post some samples from the album soon.

And thanks! Ogromnoye spacibo!

indeed they are far too primitive and non-lyrical (more like spoken-word prose text) - IMHO surely, I'd rather prefer fully instrumental record

So, it's the vocal quality, not the lyrical content? At one point, during one of the early songs on the album, my wife walked in and asked, "why are you listening to that? You hate rap."

Now, it's not as bad as rap - IMHO - but you're right, the vocals are not particularly melodic. It took me a couple of tries to get past the vocals. My gag reflex suppressed rather quickly and now I can get past the vocals and enjoy the music.

However, this is not essential listening. I got some other thoroughly unlistenable stuff from MALS this past week for review. I don't want to even bother. However, these are not Russian or FSU bands, so I'll spare you the details.

lyrics are annoying as hell. I've tried two times to sit through the whole album, but I failed

7 OKEAH (7 OCEANS) Has anyone listened to this band from Belarus? I got a copy from MALS not too long ago to review and just haven't gotten to it yet, but have found it to be very listenable. There is a lot of classic synthesizer sound on the album.
