I like what you've done with the place!  By the way, has anyone ever suggested having a "review(s) of the month" feature that would spotlight reviews that are particularly well-written or clever or insightful?  It might draw a visitor's attention to the fact that this is more than just a site that lists albums and has an active forum.  Just a thought.

I think it's a splendid idea. I'd also support a similar thing that we suggested for featured band/album etc.
But the featured review idea is a very good one and should be considered, I support this.

wonderful idea, this would be a great way to draw more attention to the many quality reviews here, and we could also make the featured album/band something a bit obscure to help people discover some new things - not entirely different to what Assaf has been doing recently in the Recs section.

It's good, like a defrag. Consolidating the subheads was a good idea. Smile

I'm not really a fan, but I'm sure I'll like it more after a while. And I can't blame you for trying to shift things up a bit.

Fine with me - I always go through the Active Topics page, so I'll be able to find what's interesting regardless of the organisation.

Personally I think there are way too many sub-forums. Is it necessary to have a different sub-forum for lists, a different sub-forum for appretiation etc etc?

I also think that the Discussions Not related to music section should be moved higher up the list.

Apostrophe removed Stoney.

The number of forums sections has only increased slightly. The objective is to ensure that topics do not die too quickly by being pushed down the page. The level of activity in the forum is such that a topic can end up on the second page of a section within hours.

Thanks for all the feedback though, we'll keep an eye on things. If a section isn't working, we'll react to it.

As has been mentioned the "Active topics" facility is always the best way to make sure you are aware of what is going on.

I like the fact that the proto and related prog category doesn't stand in the prog forums anymore. Maube it'll help understanding some eggheads that they shouldn't always grapple and gurgle when a band is added to those categories

Geek Actually, Andrew, the use of an apostrophe to pluralize capital letter or number "words" like CD, ABC, 80 or 10 is optional, and quite common. I don't use them myself (I just add a lower-case "s," as in CDs or 80s music), but if you look up the rules for apostrophe use in the style guide of a good dictionary like the Random House Webster's Concise Dictionary, you'll see that you CAN use them for this purpose, to make it clear that the "s" is not another part of the abbreviation or number "word."

So there was no need to change it, Bob. Smile

Back to the original topic, I wasn't trying to be mean or petty in my earlier post. It's just that the changes seem pretty unobtrusive, and don't seem to affect me at all.

I think this site would be better of if people would decrease their image sizes that they are using as their signature.
It's very hard to read and follow what people are writing when there are big pictures everywhere. Just a thought..

^ I use adblock to block all signature images as I find it much harder to follow the flow of the thread with them.  A strict limit on size (both dimensions and k) is warranted.

I traditionally prefer that quotes -- from other posters - be used fairly sparingly too, especially since it breaks up the flow of discussion, and it takes longer to browse the page when big quotes are used.  Other quoting styles are too often nitpicky (context and point can be lost).  Of course quotes are handy, but I feel that they are often used too much, and too often break up the conversation (I prefer that threads evolve from one post to the next to some extent while also referring back to the initial post).

As for the fora, I like them.  I would like a Prog Forum specifically for discussing Prog bands (as particularly considered prog by pretty reliable sources) not yet in the archives, but bands/ artists that one isn't formally suggesting for inclusion (as there is a formal suggestion process that one may not be able to follow through with).

Best still to use that forum Logan. There is no obligation to follow through the proposal to an addition, and you may inspire someone else to do so.

That section has a higher profile now too.

Although I like the reduction of headers, I think we have twice as many sections as we need. 31 is just too many. Consolidate ones like prog events and prog news and news from suppliers.

(It's strange being the one suggesting consolidation for once. I'm usually on the other side.)

I usually tend to do what I suggested originally, unless it seems confusing without the apostrophe. It seems to imply possession wih the apostrophe, so I avoid it whever logical. Tongue

Where can I find adblocks? It is really interesting to get rid of those images.
