following the example of StyLaZyn, I hereby open the Gong fan central; a band that is not everybody's cup of tea (sic!), but who arguably had some of the very best musicians in prog in their line-up. anyone can utter his / her two cent's worth about this amazing band here

I have a flying teapot in my room.
With the original background and all, i even had a hole drilled into the lid so i could fit in the propeller, which i made from styrofoam and masking tape. I also gave one away to the only friend i have who also likes gong, but with a different background. I'd post an image of it, but i don't really have a camera right now.
...anyhow.. well, obviously i like the Flying teapot album, but i haven't gotten hold of the other two of the trilogy, but i am very interested in hearing them, as they sound very good, especially You.
I have heard Camembert electronique, though, and i find it rather uneven. Fun to listen to, but not consistently masterliness. Ihave also listened a bit to Shamal, and i always think "hey, this is really good" while listening to it, but it doesn't seem to stick, as i rarely think about it when i'm not.

Banana Nirvana Manana! I don't enjoy SHAMAL either, apart from Bloomdido's 'Bambooji', and I completely agree that only about 50% of CAMEMBERT is good. I simply love the Radio Gnome Trilogy, Gazeuse and Expresso II! By the way, one of the greatest mysteries about Progarchives is that Daevid Allen's solo albums are noy [yet?] included here. |

of the trilogy "You" musically is the best. "Master Builder", "A Sprinkling of Clouds" and "Isle of Everywhere" are timeless classics

I saw Gong play in Edinburgh in a tiny venue about 15 years ago. Daevid Allen was approachable, funny and a genuinely nice guy. He even dedicated a verse of a song to me!

I fully agree to that. he is long overdue! he should be added without any further discussion (not really necessary in his case) |

Did anyone ever see Gong live in their Flying Teapot days? Judging from some of their live albums (esp. LIVE ETC.) and from the clothes they wore, their act may have been quite theatrical. Did they do anything special on stage?
P.S. Oui, oui - vive la banane! |

Gong are one of my all time favorites. I would do anything to have gone to their big Unconvention in Amsterdam, that must of been pretty amazing. |

Just listned to the Flying Teapot album some days ago. Great music, lovely sound and stupid lyrics, as always when talking canterbury. However, I dont like their other albums as much, but they are a very good band. |

I'm a huge fan of their Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy. "You" has to be a landmark in Space Rock history. One of my favorite albums of all times. I haven't heard other albums from them except for their trilogy and Acid Mothers Gong. My next stop: Camembert Electrique.

I think Gong are a fantastic band, one of the first that I fell in love with after discovering this website.
The 'Radio Gnome' trilogy is my favourite period, the music found on those three albums is pure genius. Tim Blake's keyboards and Steve Hillage's guitar gel so perfectly.

"Bang a Gong, get it on" (T. Rex).
Before I heard Gong (the band), I was a huge admirer of Gong Li. ![]() I love Gong's Radio Gnome Trilogy
Probably my favourite Gong song too, although they have many excellent ones. Edited by Logan - August 17 2007 at 15:21 |

'Stupid lyrics'? That's a bit harsh! Have you ever heard any solo albums by Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt or even Daevid Allen? By the way, when talking about SHAMAL earlier, I meant 'Mandrake' was the track I liked, not 'Bambooji'. ![]() Edited by fuxi - August 17 2007 at 16:15 |

I don't know why exactly, but it is a point of some distress for me that one is in digipack form while the second and third albums are in jewel cases.
