Good to see that Dawn Dialogue has been added to Prog Archives, they made prog under very difficult circumstances during the Cold War.

This thread hasn't been visited for quite a while, actually with the content search body function disabled it's almost impossible to search back to almost anything, i hope this problem will soon be adressed. So i had a lot of problems to find it again only to say that i find the latest Karfagen  (a space between us)  album to be totally terrific . I was a little less thrilled about the efforts i had to make to find this thread or for that matter anything else .

Edit: i see it is rather easy if you use the google search from the home site so discard my harsh remarks earlier, still it would be easier to have this search on every page instead of the insuffcient search abilities offered by the search option  here.

I liked it a lot, but I though I am the only one who finds their second one even better. That superficial feeling of "easy-listening" quickly disappears with repeated listenings, and I find Space Between Us to be very delicate and sophisticated piece of music.

Yes i've heard the first album and read the not altogether euphoric reviews about the second. Still got the second one (on the strength of the first one) and just like you i like it a bit better  even than the first. It's a long album though and i haven't grasped every finesse as yet but i'm very enthousiastic about it. I don;t think  all of the album is easy listening, Karfagen's music  can be very catchy at moments but there are also parts that really need some more listening to appreciate fully.

Back from Baikal/Siberia (very nice region) I have to wonder about a funny experience. I met several russian fellows which spent their holidays there too.
And of course we talked about our musical interests.
They are all familiar with european and american rock bands but when I spoke about my favourite bands of Russia, Ukrainia etc. they were astonished because they never had heard something about them, even which are resp. were busy for a longer time like Avtograph.

All right, I know this bands are from a special rock music genre. But I had expected that even the band names are known.
So this was a really funny situation. I travelled 6000 km and made promotion for russian progressive rock bands in Russia.

At the end I got some email-addresses for deepening this subject and I hope we'll have some new visitors in the future ...  

Maybe in Russia Progressive Rock bands are much more exotic than in other countries ...

I'm in Germany now (beware German Progheads!!! ), and I was surprised finding DT, MARILLION, PT and even less popular Prog bands in musical depts in markets in these little towns around Stuttgart. In the same time you'll die trying to find HORIZONT or RAINY SEASON even in Moscow Crappy situation really. Prog is extremely unpopular in post-USSR area. Snobheads claim that they're listening to Avant only, young lovers of modern prog prefer to call it "indie", and others confuse it with AOR or Heavy Metal

Today I was pondering the "Prog" label or pigeon hole and thought about how prog could be called alternative. What was once called alternative is now mainstream and what could be a better alternative than prog? But then I don't think the label stamped on it is going to change the way people react to it.
