Take A Pebble was a good way of answering critics that thought ELP were going to be bombastic all the time.It made a nice concert interlude. As Micky said it would get a bit too much to have Toccata,Tarkus and Karn Evil 9 and nothing else. ELP developed an acoustic set within the main set thanks to TAP and perhaps even invented the 'unplugged' concept.

I would agree about the studio version of TAP, but the version on "Welcome Back My Friends" is stunning, particularly the new piano section after the initial vocals and before Greg's solo spot. As Richard says, it's a good opportunity to take the pace down a bit.

I don't go a bundle on Emerson's overtly long (imho) piano showboating inserted into the Welcome Back...version of Take A Pebble, but there's a very good version on the Beyond The Beginning DVD set. And I've always liked the original too.

Donīt forget the connection between ELP and videogame music!
A LOT of japanese videogame musicians were heavily influenced by them. Nobuo Uematsu's band (The Black Mages, listed on the Progressive Metal section) performed a great version of Uematsu's "Dancing Mad" (composed for the Final Fantasy VI game in 1994) and it sounds a lot like Tarkus.

I think that Keith's and ELP's repertoire can aloud Keith to give a concert with only the piano, alone or with an orchestra. I am dreaming of that kind of show; Keith on the piano at La Place des Arts with the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra and Kent Nagago in front. That would be a great show to attend.

Amen sister, that it would. Good dream as well I used to
dream of seeing the Allman Brothers in some dive where you have to
worry about getting a knife stuck in your back. Adds to the
ambiance hahahha

As a previous poster said, I too enjoy the 'Filler' tracks. They're amusing and light hearted. A pleasure to listen to.
To date I have only fully listened to their self titled debut (which I think is a brilliant album) and Tarkus (which I think is good but not as enjoyable as their debut)

Count me in as a big ELP fan too. Often misunderstood band that really did masterful work in the 1970's, even if Love Beach was a big mistake (though Memoires Of An Officer...is a really lovely piece of music). Listening to alot of Emerson's output after their split makes it easy to see how much each member of the band complimented each other.

Emerson was accepted for inclusion about a year ago. No one offered to add him, until I decided to take matters into my own hands and add him to Art Rock. However, I can't add bands to other subgenres without the permission of the team involved. If the Symphs see he's been added to AR and wish to take him under their wing, I'll move him in two seconds flat - as Admin, I have access to the DB and can move bands whenever it is necessary to do so.
