C`mon dudes, this thread deserves some claps to Andrea Cortese, new SC!!! well deserved
That RRR album is excellent, it is one of those albums that i have in my albums to review list, but actually i have it since some months ago , Pholas Dactylus is unknown for me, though i have had the possibility of acquiring it, but i haven`t yet.
Today i bought 3 Italian albums:
Le Orme - Elementi
DFA - Work in Progress (Live) this is excellent
Finisterre - Storybook
I made very nice additions to my collection i think!

My signature rocks!!!
Well, I discovered Acqua Fragile 3 weeks ago, and they have a strong Genesis influence, the fact of singing in English really disappointed me, but the music is cool by the way, I think they are the weakest italian band I've heard to the date.

Actually i didn´t like that Acqua Fragile album, maybe i need more listens i dunno, but as you said their English lyrics are a low point.
Meanwhile i can say that Work in Progress by DFA is an excellent live album, jazz oriented but the quality of the musicians is excellent!

very nice addtions indeed. Have a clappie.... I agree... here's a couple of clappies for Andrea. Awarded the coveted SC rank by the admin team in recognition of having survived being being stuck in a team with me for the last month or two Not to mention being considered one of the true 'gentlemen' of the site. With all respect to Mandy.. see next post... I think the RRR album is one of the REAL gems of the 2nd division (noteriey-wise) bands/albums. Most all know the albums by the big 3, however there are some GREAT albums that are not really as well known. You really should check out Pholas Dactylus. I really like it.. again not having a clue to the seemingly inane lyrics. It's in my top 10 RPI/ISP albums. |

I wanted to come back to this Mandy. I took the album in to work today.. curious to see if I could hear what you heard that had escaped me. Had a wonderful listening experience while sitting in the INFERNAL DC traffic this afternoon. If I can be frank.. I have no clue what the hell you are talking about as far as the production taking away from the album, or soundng dated ..any more than any other album recorded 30+ years ago. What exactly was it you heard? My curioiusity is greatly aroused. |

another album from Micky's favorite list... recently moved from
back with its brothers in RPI, after the torture of confinement
in the labyrinthine dungeons under the fortress Art Rock
what an album... thoughts from the RPI lovers out there... |

Well, I don't know so many italian bands, but the few I know really rock. One of my last additions was Alphataurus and I just got The voice hasn't the same technique as Banco or Il Balletto but the powerful voice of Michele Bavaro is awesome.

We have, Guillermo, and we always intended to move them... Now that you've reminded me of that, I'll move them myself later this morning! |

Yep,
Formula 3 really deserve to come out of the darkness where they're lying, actually... they belong to RPI

To exception of little groups (but that in truth) I would propose actual the genre ROCK PROGRESSIVO ITALIANO. In fact a lot of Italian groups changed genre also to the inside of an single album. This happened also abroad. Nevertheless in Italy the problem was had to to the fact that the Critical did not understand this music and the musicians, that in general were gotten ready, looked for change this problem playing music complicated and that hit the people. For example the Area carved songs Jazz Rock next to songs totally Symphonic. The New Trolls are passed from the Proto-Prog and from the Beat to the Symphonic Prog and then to the POP commercial one... But always with a strong component Prog. Eugenio Finardi proposed a Rock (above all in the beginning) that is not simply Rock or Art Rock (or how want to call it) because is Prog!!! Also Sangiuliano that seems very like to Vangelis like concept in reality presents a strong visual component, typical thing of the Italian Prog and that is the glue of the genre. However a valid description of the genre I would not know to give it (and, attention, I talk about genre not of stage or movement or other!) |

And I've just moved them to ISP, which is to become RPI even if the owners don't agree with a name change. Micky and I talked about that when I was in the US over the holidays, but I only remembered to do it now. Thank you for reminding me! The RPI issue is a very complex one, as I just said. I agree with Mandy, and of course this is also Micky's opinion. However, if you remember well, there was a poll some time ago (I opened it on M.'s behalf), which unfortunately was overwhelmingly against the implementation of a new subgenre for Rock Progressivo Italiano. Therefore, we will make do with what we have, and use the existing subgenre of ISP for those bands who were active in the Seventies, or for those clearly inspired by them. |

^^^
Yep, we have to go on so, until things change, at least.
RPI is is the right word. We usually use this term in Italy to define our peculiar prog scene of the seventies.
ISP is "FLATUS VOCIS" 'cause make other important and relevant classic bands stand far from their "brothers"...

hahahha I remember that poll... good times indeed hahah. Though proof again that polls are not worth a damn thing if people have no clue what they are talking about The admins let us do it, swayed by the logic in our arguments and the passion in our hearts hahahha, and then asked us to prove or at least submit a case why it should be seperate and andrea delivered the goods for us. As I've said about these stupid polls... numbers lie.. logic doesn't.... Check it out, it's a mouthfulll, but worth a read. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=33377 |
