I always thought "Tangerine Dream" was a bit lame. But I think "Can" wins.

Just in case this is a language problem:
Flower:
Flour:
I imagine their name indicates a retro/hippy sort of focus on love and beauty. It's a very 60s/70s sort of name for a prog band. With their derivitive, retro sound, I think the name works.
But tell me please, folks: why is "Opeth" a good band name? (It sounds like a lisp, to me.)
Does it mean anything? Edited by Peter Rideout - December 05 2006 at 19:34 |

Googled it -- Wikipedia says this, of the name Opeth:
The name Opeth was taken from the novel Sunbird by author Wilbur Smith, and was originally spelled Opet. In the book, Opet is the name of the location for an ancient empire which translates to "City of the Moon". Edited by Peter Rideout - December 05 2006 at 19:38 |

Hmmmm -- not according to Wikipedia.
Their explanation sounds more credible, to me. Who's right?

The wiki explaination is nicer, but any fool can edit wikipedia which annoys me. I'm still addicted to the thing, though...
I, personally, think "Phil Collins" is a cruddy name for a band. |

I read an interview with Mikael Akerfeldt several years ago, and he confirmed that he did "rip off" the name Opeth from Wilbur Smith.

Best: King Crimson, Jethro Tull (because who can't like a band named after the inventor of a seed drill ), Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd
Worst: Yes (not necessarily because of how it sounds, but because of how it just doesn't seem like something a band should be named), Emerson, Lake and Palmer (for lack of originality) |

Best- Mahavishnu Orchestra: This is probably the coolest name for a band that anyone has ever come up with in the history of all time. King Crimson is pretty cool as well, and Genesis isn't a bad name either.
Worst- Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer: I don't like the name Yes, it just doesn't sound that great, and it's really annoying trying to read a sentence with the word Yes in it, especially when somebody decides not to capitalize it. Maybe I should start a band with a single mundane word for a name. How about: "The" It would be nearly impossible to read a sentence with my band name in it. |
