Having said all this, however, I don't let it worry me too much, as women are the least of my issues right now!

Do you understand a boy may have mood swings, or even chemical imbalances resulting in depression? Some people have trouble talking to girls, and this upsets them even more. Now, maybe the a/holes comment goes a bit far, because I've noticed a lot of nice guys "get the girl." However, Josh does point out a key thing: the really nice guys usually get their face thrown in the mud. You know, the ones who offend no one, opens the door for ladies, all-around chivalrous guy gets screwed. Well, maybe he didn't say that, but that's what it made me think of. *nudge nudge*

OH right, right sorry, yeah, he's totally right, that's exactly what I meant. And, my "only assholes get girls"comment was a sweeping generalization, but hey, these things come mostly from reality

Chivalrous guys get noticed a lot more than you think. Trust me, as one of the noticers .

Strange thing is, the chivalrous guys tend to notice the same girls everyone else does... the ones that do the in-the-mud-throwing. Try looking at girls on the outskirts, m'dears. They have more in common with you anyway.

And no, I'm not indulging in the whining, just sharing my experience. My prog-loving boyfriend and I just had our one year anniversary - and it's all down to him looking in places few think to look. So do not despair, my pretty little ducklings. Get creative!

To add my (vastly undervalued) New Zealand $0.02 "nice" guys do indeed finish last.  "NIce" is boring.  Pleasant and amiable on the other hand is not boring.  "Nice" suggests dull and safe.  Be yourself, do not try and be the stereotypical nice guy if that is not who you are. 

If you find it difficult to strike up a conversation with a member of the opposite sex then start trying to talk to members of your own sex.  Communication skills are transferable between genders. 

The suggestion that you need to love yourself to be loved is 100% accurate.  If you cannot see the good points in you then how can anyone else.

As far as my own status goes, well I am 29 and single, have been for five years.  A large part of that half-decade has been learning what I have just typed above.  Things will happen in the fullness of time and I am not concerned or trying to rush anything.
