it has come to my attention that a lot of guys here havent done much when it comes to girls, if anything. why is this?
im not here to make fun of you guys, my experience is not as high as id like it to be (no gf in a good year or so) so what is it? is it our musical tastes that turn others away? shy? our music takes up a lot of our time (damn long songs)?
i know for me, after i broke up with my last gf, which was the beginning of last summer, i decided to take a period of selabasy (sp?) for the summer and just chill with my friends and not have those relationship worries. since then nothing's materialized much, hooked up with a couple of girls but thats it. from here im just gonna see what happens.

I think there are plenty of guys who have, but I think to those who haven't, it has been comically exaggerated. I'm not in or looking for a relationship right now, becasue frankly, I don't want to. I don't see a need to rush at my age.

I've had my experiences (perhaps too many), but have been in a period of celibacy for the last four years.
You have to broaden your horizons. Prog fans aren't that plentiful, and even more scarce in female form. It might also help to cut down on socializing here, and get out once in a while.

This girl likes Syd Barrett, The Flaming Lips, Jefferson Airplane, and tons of great classic rock, which is good enough for me. She's also very pretty and likes me a lot.

Seriously though, I have no opportunities, and I've only liked like 3 people, and actually tried to ask out one of them.......and she said yes, but then avoided me for a MONTH, then finally told me she lied the whole time and never liked me, and that I was a stalker. Now I'm too afraid to talk to any girls

So far, I had 3 x's in my life. I had my first girlfriend when I was a sophomore way back my college years. It only lasted 8 months. Reason for break up: Third party.
Right now, I have a steady relationship with my present girlfriend ( who loves Genesis, Camel, Jethro Tull, Dream Theater etc. ). We have some pics on the rogues gallery. We'll be celebrating our second anniversary this coming Oct. 31. We're actually thinking of marriage. Nobody can handle my tantrums better than her, I think.

ive had more than enough girls after me in my life...
Never kissed a girl in my life[IMG]height=17 alt="Big smile" src="http://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif" width=17 align=absMiddle>
My friends dont get it, but i do. I adore girls, i think about girls all day...but i know for the most part its just my animal instinct. I come from a very good looking family, my mom was a model and my sister is an aspring model, my dad tells me stories of the 70's and his sex life as though he were a rock star (disturbing at times lol!!)
But anyways, i dont give a sh*te frankly, i have girls i could be with, relationships and the like....but it never interested me, always seems like a burden whenever i get close to one, and all of the friends i have crying everyday about their girl problems.
I have done NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING with girls. I just cant bring myself to do it...
Had a girl this weekend calling me over, BEAUTIFUL girl ive been dying to meet....so i met her, and she was ofcourse leaning in for the kill and then....prog rushes through my head, thoughts of my dads boat, my brother, sister, my music, my life...and im like sh*t stop dont do it you will regret this....and i know i will, i just know it, shed be on my ass bugging me everyday, or worse, shed be awkward and ignore me or some sh*te.
I just love being a free, 20 yr old virgin dude who doesnt give a rats ass about chics, and mind you my brother hasnt gotten anything either and hes had trouble getting something, and i always try to tell him to just screw it, but he says its easier for me to say.
But once you LOVE you just love and your life is living and thats IT. Screw it go hire a hooker and have a blast fellas if you really need it!![IMG]height=17 alt=Clap src="http://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif" width=18 align=absMiddle>

How shall I answer this question?
Well, I feel that I am quite comfortable around women at my school. I converse with them, ask them questions, annd occaisonally ridicule them. I seldom circumvent the rules of etiquette while I am around women, unless it is a girl I am attracted to.
A Depressing Figure: In my high school, roughly 850 students, split 50/50 about, I am only attracted to Four girls. That is .94% of the women at my school.
I hate my High School.
The paucity of female companionship in life coupled with my unceasing interest in progressive rock has propelled me to write. I often write lugubrious, melancholy stories based off the muses I experience while listening to prog albums. Its usually melancholy, yet extrodinarily real. My poems are of the same nature. Sinfield, Hammill, Curtis, and Gabriel are my biggest influences.

i dont know how many men ive spoken to that have told me they would give the world to be young again, and to have not been married, when they are truly being honest.
Being free and living easy is the way to live, and it takes time to learn that. You should never work for your money, you should have fun making money...and you should always do what makes you happy, and what you knwo is right, and ofcourse, love, with all your might, before its too late (pinder, mish moshed).

Haven't had a girlfriend. I don't actually talk to girls often. Besides, all of them (almost) wear tight, revealing clothes, and date potsmoking skaters in grade 12. I'm not extremely popular (well, I post here ) so I probably won't get one anytime soon. What's the best way to make a move without looking sleazy?

I find women approaching you is always the easiest.
This is a bit of a lame idea and not one I've tried personally, but carry a lighter around with you. Girls always ask for a light.
Having said that, I'd rather be with a non-smoker myself.

Tony: Geddy Lee... singer and bass player of Rush? Bird: *shakes head* who? Tony: Oh forget it! Phwoar!!!! What a nice pair of Bristols under that blouse! Bird: Erm, I... erm... have to go, sorry...

The point is that any relationship is a leap into the unknown. If you visit the well enough times you might just get to.....(thinks..carry the water home,do the dishes, spend hours in supermarkets, not speak for a week everytime you go for a booze up with your mates, learn that aspirins and paracetemol dont always cure headaches....).....leap in and drown!
Oh and alimony (or maintenance as it is called here in the UK)...

I seriously don't care about girls all too much. I mean, never to the point where I'd want to ask anyone out. There was this period where me and (certain other person in forum) liked the same girl and both of us were too polite to ask her out at the risk of abandoning eachother, not like we would have done it anyway. Anyways, since I'm relatively new to my district (or at least it feels like it) I'm focusing more on making friends than dating them.

ASK YUKORIN...
90% of my friends are female. I prefer them for several reasons. Never had problems about the subject (finding a girlfriend). One clue is not to think about girlfriend as a supermarket item. Other clue is not to "search". Just wait until something clicks in your mind - heart - stomach. When interested in someone, be yourself. Don't act silly or funnier - cleverest than you actually are. Do not idealize. My few male friends are the kind of guy that thinks about "looks" as a very deep human quality. The fact is, people in love has their eyes closed most of the times.

I am hardly qualified to discuss success with women - or am i? i have been married and divorced twice, had many long relationships, dozens of short ones, so i can't complain, i'm an expert on how not to pick the right woman
from reading some of the above threads i say guys, remember girls are people who feel exactly the same as you, they're not aliens from another planet - friendship is the most important thing, i've learned that to my cost. As for now, i'm "resting" between wives.

I am of course very skilled with the ladies....
Has to be said the World would be a much better place if it was populated only by women. Look at the ignornat bozos on this site (no offense meant to anyone, apart from the few, and you know who you are, right!).
My very best friends are women, the people who I share my deepest concerns with and problems with are all women.
Sometimes I just despair with the male of this species...

Oh I quite agree, NA. Most of my close friends are female and they are indeed the easiest to converse with when it comes to concerns and worries. I have a few older male friends (when I say older, I mean 27-30) who are caring guys, but's that because they've lived lives and they've been where most teenagers are at the moment.
Sometimes I feel quite happy not having a woman in my life, it saves a lot of hassles and I am far less stressed too. There's no rush for me.

i believe it works like this..........
the male is one thing, the female is another, and when they come together it becomes a third thing.......a very special and powerful thing.
.........but there needs to be a lot of understanding for that third thing to be a good thing!
the two halves make a whole if they work together, it takes two to make it work, and it takes two to make it fail. It's collusion, and sometimes it takes a while to find the partner that fits, but it's amazing when that happens!
(of course I don't exclude gay couples from this)

I've come too the conclusion I have more experience with girlfriends then some of you guys.
And I don't think it's the music, because I met a guy who likes all good prog bands and I find it so sexy.

Well said!
Though it is evident that such an enlightened comment comes from a 'Chick' ! What male has the required sensitivity to make such a statement?

Yes, understanding is the top of the pile for couples for me, without that, the relationship will inevitably fail.
I like my own time, doing things I want to do, so an overbearing girlfriend would not be for me. Clingyness is not for me.
From experiencing some of my female friends, I find girls seem so bored nowadays and they crave for a guy and then when they do get one, they're overbearing and clingy. I've seen it with my own eyes and I feel sorry for some of the guys, because they're too nice to say anything about it.

O I can't stand girls who don't give their guys any freedom. I had a girl like that in my class and she was always annoyed when her boyfriend was out with his friends instead of with her.
I always told her to let the guy have some time for herself.
And then she started saying mean stuff like "You give your guy too much time for himself, do you even know where he is?"

Exactly, both of my best friends used to be like that, but they seem to have calmed down a bit since they've been stable relationships.
Just because men are generally idiots and don't always understand women, doesn't mean women should take them for granted. A lot of guys are compassionate and want the best from a girlfriend and truly do love them, yet a lot of women seem to get paranoid when they're not with them, that their boyfriend is out with other girls. I've seen it numerous times.
Of course though, men are the worst, so I'm not solely having a go at women here. I admire women actually and men generally treat them like dirt.

ONe thing I've noticed about girls in general, in a relationship, is that they are passionless. What I mean is that they get up, go to work, come back from work, go to sleep, start all over again... No hobbies, pastimes, or passions whatsoever. They are so fully concentrated on their professional lives that they end up missing everything else worthwhile. We men (read overgrown kids) are more hobby-prone it seems, and that is why we need OUR time, and most women don't seem to understand this.
Well I am a lucky b*****d! My girlfriend has her passions and hobbies !!!

Not in the case of my particular female friends, until now. They always wanted to party, pick up guys and quite often they didn't even go to work the day after. Luckily they've changed for the better, but it is worrying indeed. That's why they're clingy, because they don't have any hobbies and they don't want to be alone.
I'm not a woman, but I enjoy my own company (it used to be the complete opposite, I used to hate my own company so much, I used to always go out and be with people) and it's my observation that women don't generally enjoy their own.

Very, very wrong in the case of this particular woman. I do enjoy my own company very, very much (to the extent that I always travel on my own), and I'd rather be alone than in the company of people I dislike. But, of course, I'm an adult, and a very independent one at that, and very picky when it comes to people.

i wholeheartedly disagree with almost everything said here, but heres my input:
Ever watch Bambi? Anyways, dont get twiterpated...which is getting infautuated basically. Love is a very mysterious thing, and it is used almost entirely to discuss sexual themes when this is entirely incorrect.
I am currently in love with many, many ideas and themes.
A woman entering my life as a "love" is a very distant and confusing idea to me. I have a brother, a sister, two parents and a pretty big family. I know my aunt and uncle don't love eachother, and my very own two parents are having crisis problems which they overshadow through other things.
I have never met a "happy" couple in my life, only two people that made a decision based on societal influence.
This happens all the time and it is happening right here, right now.
If you feel you have found "love" with another person, than that is great and i would love to study the situation and see how it unfolds. Im not saying its impossible, but to me its almost 100% unlikely to happen.
TRUE happiness is aquired through one self, and the interaction with others, not the MERGING with other which is what marraige will do to someone. I LOVE my brother and my sister, but if i ever tied it so close that everything i did was under surveilance or decisions i made were based on other terms....i would not be happy.
Just putting my input in

Hey, Hey, just ask them if they have any spare change, in that case.
Ask enough, and you'll have enough for some Chinese cooking wine to drown your sorrows in!

Love? I have no idea what that would feel like. But I know someone who I'm very comfortable around, who I can talk to, who make me feel good about myself. The only missing picture of the puzzle is sexual intimacy, which I'd definitely not want without all of the above criteria, but if one is in a serious relationship with the above criteria, I think it's a bit puzzling to avoid the missing factore (the sexual intimacy). But with out the emotional connection, it would be an empty experience with only fleeting resonance.

(There -- I've helped a stranger! Boy, do I feel good!) | That was a good one. I stil don't understand his problem, I strike up conversations with anyone, although I often do have better luck with girls after a few driinks, more courage and I can stand boring conversations.
