An English friend of mine loves CoB and she's been to Finland and seems to like Finnish rock and metal bands for some reason.  She wants to go to Wacken Festival and has the ticket, but she cannot afford to get a flight.  Shame.

I want to go to Sweden myself.

I'd have to agree with you!  You have an advantage living in Finland.  How I wish I lived in somewhere in Scandanavia for just that one of many reasons.

You have no idea how close to the truth you are! Wink

There's a fairly common joke around here, that if you want to get a girlfriend, just wear a Children Of Bodom t-shirt, and in a matter of minutes, some 15-year old COB-fangirl will come to talk to you. LOL

REALLY???? wow!  (except for the 15 year old partConfused)

but for real, nobody but us nerds listen to CoB in the states.  hot girls listen to emo here. Cry

You're just making my case for move to Finland stronger now.
I have been having this discussion with my spouse for years now, about moving to Finland. Now I have one more good argument.

Well, as long as you have long hair, I would say as many as you want. Wink

On a more serious note, it's an interesting fact, that in the US teenagers seem to listen to emo and genres like that. I personally don't know anyone who listens to emo around here, instead, many teenagers are very keen on bands like Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, In Flames etc. Just goes to show how different our cultures are. I guess the constant darkness during the winter here does count for something, eh? Ermm

Same in Greece. In the UK, they follow new trends like EMO and Punk Metal but here in Greece it's more melodic metal and 80's metal.

Too bad the most popular Metal the fins listen to is quite dull, but I guess it's like that everywhere. I have no idea why, but here in Latvia there has been a new wave of Bon Jovi popularity - it doesn't make any sense to me. I mean, why them out of all the bands?

Yeah, that's the song practically everyone listens to exclusively. If the song isn't played a good hundred of times on repeat during a party, it means the party has gone wrong. LOL

Well, while many americans take pride in listening to pseudo-"emo" bands or tough as sh*t metalcore, the general fashion here is still pop, and the attitude to other styles is always as radical and closed-minded as it can be. Rock is only known in its primitive shape, when people hear the word 'Metal' they laugh out loud and tell you to "go cry in a dark room wearing black leather and make-up". Classical is lame and old, jazz is stupid, and the word 'prog' only confuses people, who will ask you if you aren't, by any means, referring to Progressive Trance(I think)?

The majority listens to either pop(basically just radio hits of all types) or electronic music, everything else is as rare as it gets.

^^ Yeah, pretty much. Tongue

Don't get me wrong though, there are plenty of people here who cannot stand any kind of metal (especially girls), but the genre does seem to be slightly more popular here than in most other countries.

Ah, but apart from Tarja, aren't your favourites Dutch, Tlossy?

I like a variety of women from Scandanavia.  Let's just say Finland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Denmark, Russia, and England (I knowthe last two are not Scandanavian) are the countries that have my favorite women.
The Netherlands isn't part of Scandinavia either.

Yeah Metal of all types definately sells better anywhere in Europe than anywhere else.  Of course not everyone in a certain country likes Metal, but it's still great to see that there is a big scene there.

Metalcore isn't metal it's a subgenre of hardcore.  I don't know about Nu-Metal.
