There is nothing particularly "wrong" with them, but if I have a choice between good looking Northern and Southern European women, I'll taken Northern ones 9 times out of 10.

It's a question of individual taste, I suppose... In Italy men are supposedly crazy about Northern European women (because of the blond hair), but the reverse is also true. When I lived in Finland I even avoided having highlights done to my hair, as I realised I was a rarity with my darker hair (which is not really dark BTW) and, especially, my very dark eyes. So, I cultivated my exotic image, and it was quite fun...Wink

Don't even mention Finland infront of Tlossy!

I actually prefer brunettes, or fair-haired girls.  Blondes only work if they're of the "innocent" look.  Most blondes don't have this.  I think it's a built in thing that all blondes have to look sexy, buxom and volumptious.  Weird!

I don't really like Simone Simmons...

I don't love only redhead girls. I just prefer a beautiful redhead girl to a beautiful not rehead girl.Wink

I lived there for almost six years and it was great... I even learnt the language, and I still can speak and write it decently. Girls were quite good-looking, that's true (though not more so than Italian ones, only different...Wink) - unfortunately, the same couldn't be said of men (of course, with the exception of all our Finnish male forum frequenters!LOL). I fell desperately in love with a Danish man, who was tall, slender and with light brown hair - but things didn't work out, alas...Cry

Oh, you and Tlossy should be able to converse in Finnish together!

That language seems really difficult to learn, but I guess like any language, just living in a country long enough is sufficient to pick up at least the basics.

I've been learning it over the past year or two.  I can't write much better than I can speak it. LOL

I was hanging out in a Russian bar (on my vacation) with a bunch of Suomealainens who helped me out a bit.  Living in the US doesn't present too much oppurtunity to speak Suomea.  It makes me want to drag someone out behind the sauna. LOL

@ Bern

Then why don't you like Simone Simons?Wink

Actually, I don't know. She's ok but she's not my type. She's not natural enough I guess. Wink

Experts say that's one of the most difficult languages in the world. Suffice it to say that it makes German seem easy. It's true that living in a country can help a lot, but while in Finland I met some other foreigners who'd been living there for much longer than I and who could hardly speak it, even in everyday situation. I was successful because, first of all, I'm a trained linguist and language teacher, then I've got an uncommon aptitude for languages (or so I've been told) and, last but not least, I was strongly motivated. It took a lot of effort and practice, but I'm very proud of the results.

Well done!  I'd love to be able to speak at least just one foreign language, but alas, I can only speak English.  I learnt some French at school, but I've long since forgotten it.  I also learnt some basic German once as well and again, I've forgotten most of it.

I was chatting to AtLossForWords about the pronounciation of Finnish band names.

It seems Alamaailman Vasarat is not pronounced how I thought!  Not sure about Hoyry-kone though.

Oh, well I was told:

Alamaailman Vasarat is more like: Ala-ma-eel-man Vasa-rot or something like that... Tlossy isn't here to confirm it at the moment.

So it is really as straight forward as that?  Is the E on the end of Kone, soft or hard?
