I'm currently feeling myself becoming more interested in KING CRIMSON. I have In The Court of the Crimson King and The Power To Believe... and I want to start going through the KC career starting with their early era. I want to get Lizard next, but I wanna know what people think of it first.

What's the general feeling toward LIZARD???

That's a Fripp's classic, and it really represents the early Crimson.  Personnally, I think it's the second best after Lark's, because the music is very intelligent and the sound is unique.  The title song is amazing, and it's a very good and short album that you can easily listen from the beginning to the end without any blink.  Good listening, fellow...

That's all that need be said. While you're at it, get Islands, too. Those are two of my favorite Krimson releases.

lizard is their most jazzy album. not brutal like larks, red & bible black, but it is not as mellow as tracks like moonchild, i talk to the wind & cadence. VERY jazzy, sometimes approaching frank sinatra's orchestra!

A very good album, some really jazzy moments but not too often though. Get Lark's Tongues In Aspic and In The Wake of Poseidon first, then get this one.

I think your suggestion to get Lizard next is an excellent choice. After that I would suggest you go for its successor, Larks Tongues in Aspic, or Red.

Lizard is the most unique King Crimson album in my opinion. It takes some getting used to, but reaps repeated rewards upon repeated listenings. When it came out there was nothing that quite sounded like it, and that is still true today! Some of the keyboard sounds are just incredible. How did Fripp do it?

I can see why people may not like it, but I think its one of their most overlooked. "Cirkus" and "Indoor Games" are awesome. People rag on Gordon Haskelll's vocals, and they are technically lacking, but somehow it just adds to the atmosphere. And the epic Lizard, from which the album gets its title is breathtaking and beautiful in passages. You even get a John Anderson guest vocal. Look into it.

Lizard is good.  It's a bit different from the first two albums.  Greg Lake and Michael Giles are gone.  Gordon Haskell does a decent with the vocals. There's somewhat less mellotron.  There are more horns on the album (through guest musicians).  The songs include some funky, jazzy, and psychedelic elements not on the first two.  Probably more consistent than Posiedon.  Opening track Cirkus, and the second half of the song Lizard, are particularly powerful.

For the first 46 years of my life the only King Crimson I owned was Starless and Bible Black (I still think the first side of that is terrific). In the last three years I think I've purchased ten more. Lizard and Islands are both worth about a month long listen.

While the early crimsons are not my favourite (I think 72-74 is the best period), they got a very special ambiance about them, especially lizard and islands. So yes it's a good choice, but don't worry if you don't like it, because there's no crimsonalbum that sounds anything like lizard.
