I remember seeing them supporting the Earthband in Newcastle, around the time of Seven Seas of Rhye, and quite liked them. After that though, they did nothing for me - it's just a sound I could never warm to.
I don't particularly hate them, but by crackey I do hate Bohemian Rhapsody!

Nay i say that Queen make Gay'ish music...there are several bands that make Gay'ish music that does nto have anyone in the band that is gay and ofcourse does not Judas Priest make gay'ish music.
And by gayish music i mean simplistic pop in the lowest form that usually applies to women.

The songs you listed aren't poppy crap, and some
have decent proggy moments. What was your criteria for picking
the songs? It looks to me as if you just listed all the Queen
songs you could think of.
|
i picked the most awfull queen melodies i could think of:
BIG BOTTOMED GIRL, BICYCLE RACE, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, SOME
KIND OF MAGIC, RADIO GAGA, CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE AND SO ON IS
POP IN ITS LOWEST SENSE...
even invisible touch was more proggy...
i like pop songs but i prefer intelligent ones... |
A Kind of Magic and Radio Ga Ga aren't unintelligent pop songs - A Kind
of Magic relates to the movie Highlander, and Radio Ga Ga is about
radio being replaced by TV as a means of entertainment.
Seven Seas of Rhye, The Show Must Go On, Innuendo, Who Wants To Live
Forever, I Want It All, Love Of My Life, Death On Two Legs, White Queen
and Father To Son aren't simple pop songs (half of those weren't even
released as singles).
I'm not saying that they haven't made some bad songs, but they're
nowhere near as bad as some artists. And if Queen are gay because
of Freddie Mercuy's sexual preference (and he was actually bisexual),
then by the same logic, Judas Priest must be gay.

I hate the Village People ... or The Pet Shop boys, for that matter. Queen are LIGHT YEARS ahead of that kind of music.
How can I like those songs? Well, first of all it's a matter of taste. Many of these songs are objectively brilliant. Ask any music expert ... composition, creativity, innovation, musicianship, it's all there.

Again strict love/hate judgements. I tried to remain objective. Queen as an band released very good and even, constructed albums until "A day at the race".
"News of the world" and "Jazz" still have good moments. Things went wrong, IMHO, when the band ceased to be one and turned to become Freddie Mercury's extravaganza supporting act. But the same happened to Genesis and others.

I even like most of the hit songs Queen made in the 80s.
Made In Heaven isn't very
strong musically, but I think it understanable since is it was put
together from the left-overs after Freddie had died.
Prog or not, the material Queen made in the 70s is excellent for me. A Night At The Opera is one of my all time favourite albums. It has a nice balance between the poppier and proggier material.

^ they didn't. I challenge you to name these songs, at least the 20 most "ugly" Queen songs you can think of.
I love Queen ... the only albums which I wouldn't recommend are:
- Made in Heaven
- Hot Space
- Flash Gordon

A band that manages to make atleast 50 songs that are truly awfull can not be justified even if they should make one good album

It would be more constructive to name this thread:"why I hate/dislike Queen" if,indeed,it serves any real purpose other than to antagonise.......
