I'm not so sure that Hogarth is entirely correct. I went to see The Church recently and the audience was about 25% women, maybe more. Same at the last Yes concert I attended. Same with Floyd.
However, if Hogarth is correct in any way, and men take to prog more than women, it may not be a matter of "smarter," but rather that women tend to be more in touch with "emotion" while men tend to be more "intellectual" - overall. Thus, music like prog - which has its "emotional" side but is still largely "intellectual" is nature - will necessarily appeal more to men, while women will be more drawn to music that has a more prevalent "emotional" value.
Peace.

I read this thread and while I thought Luke is/was a bit of a w**ker I fail to see why he was thrown out. He may have walked the line a bit, but he didn't cross it IMO. Just more abusive power being demonstrated by the admins here.

You're right that women seem to be more in touch with emotions. As to men being more intellectual, the postings on this thread indicate the opposite.
I was thinking that a few women prog fans would give an answer in this thread but it seems that there aren't any here!

I have read some of the other threads and he's a bit of an antagonist, but he didn't show pics of penis's, threaten to kill people , or fill his posts with tons of vulgarity.
I have been naughtier than Luke in the past as well as VC and Tony R. We're still all here. This place has become too sensitive and people need to develop thicker skin.

I guess it's easy to say women like love songs and men like songs about wizards and spaceships. I guess it all depends on how you are 'wired up' as an individual.
I find good prog rock extremely emotional, the intellectual side of it is secondary. But then what I find emotional is not what the 'masses' find emotional. There are few 'love songs' I like, and the ones I do will be a bit 'odd'

As far as this topic goes its not whether woman are smarter or not or we're all just big nerds. I blame it on women's affinity towards pop culture. They are exposed to it at an early age and even encouraged to indulge in it and therefore just do not relate to something so counter- culture like progressive rock.

In fact, Luke did in fact use an enormous amount of vulgarity, as well as engaging in continual personal attack, both of which are violations of the site guidelines. Indeed, his actions drew the attention of both the admin and collabs, and I ejected him based on both his own unrepentant obnoxiousness and the recommendation of almost the entire admin and collab groups.
Peace.

if the facts of the matter are made plain to him, and he in time demonstrates some form of contrition, would you agree that he should be given a second opportunity, now he realises that the site isn't a free-for-all?
After all, Flowerchild was given a second chance, against the better judgement of most site users..and his behaviour was significantly more unpleasant..![](smileys/smiley5.gif)
