Ok, since so many others do it. I'll sum it up though since typing everthing would be a little much. The list was completely revised and overhauled. This is definitely what we have. Previously overlooked entries in red. Aera Edited by BaldFriede |

average starrating per band: 4 some outstanding choices there (Yes, Genesis, Magma, Gentle Giant, VDGG, Hawkwind, King Crimson, Henry Cow, Amon Duul, Can, Nathional Health, Gong, Pink Floyd) but I miss bands like Camel, Kansas, Queen, Rush, Caravan, Marillion, Arena, Pendragon, IQ, Clepsydra, Echolyn, Like Wendy Ayreon, Angra, Threshold, Moody blues, Jethro Tull, and some others, if those were included I would rate it 4,5, omit some from your list for a higher rating |

We have Caravan and Jethro Tull; I forgot to mention them (and I am sure I forgot a lot of others). Marillion is not our cup of tea, as is most other neo prog (we have listened to Clepsydra, Pendragon and IQ; no thanks. The rest of the neo-prog bands you mentioned I can say nothing about). Rush is not to our liking, at least not what we have heard of them so far. The same is true for Kansas. Oh, and Camel are too mainstream for our taste. We even have their albums up to "Rain Dance", but none of them really convince us.

BaldFriede,
Great Planet Gong photo What a party I'm sure that was!!! Not surprisingly, many of the same artists/bands are in my completionist listing as well. Not many Italian bands noted however. Obviously very strong in the German category. (Is it not PC to use Krautrock as a term? That's what we used to call it here in the states, but I wanted to check...) Any Eastern European stuff....Collage, After Crying, Omega, Plastic People, FSB, SBB, etc. Kewl list |

Sorry but you don't have any metal , that certainly takes 2 stars away immediately! If you had some Black Sabbath in there or something it'd be better.. BUT the fact that you have Tangerine Dream albums makes me add an extra star. And as the prog bands on the list are pretty stellar I would say 4 stars and that's a very good rating! |

No, we are not really into metal. The closest to metal we have are High Tide and Hawkwind, but we like them for other qualities than that (though the metal aspect of them is ok with us).

We have quite a lot albums of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin though. But I didn't list them in here.

Excellent collection, but you knew I'd say that anyway. Not much of the further flung Canterbury/RIO scene (The Muffins, French TV, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, The Residents, Sammla Mammas Manna, Univers Zero and so on) and Magma seem to be the only Zeuhl act, so I'll knock my rating down to 4.5 stars (plus I'm jealous of your comprehensive Krautrock selection).

Hatfield and the North we have too, of course, as most of the other Canterbury stuff (Arzachel, Egg, National Health, Khan, Matching Mole, Bruford)

Do you have any Italian prog?
And if not have you tried some of the mp3s? |

Oh, forgot the Residents and Snakefinger too. As I said, I made the list just from what came to my mind immediately. And I just added some Canterbury stuff. We definitely have more, I have to look it up.

Italian prog is something we are not familiar with, I must admit. But I am definitely open to suggestions. |

Alrighty, you could check mp3s from these seminal Italian groups:
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso (the early albums) Premiata Forneria Marconi (the early albums) ...and these "heavier" groups: Museo Rosenbach Biglietto per L'inferno There are many more but I think these are good ones to try first. If you don't like any of these it is not your thing then. |

The Deep Freeze Mice, by the way, are one of the most obscure prog bands of all times; even those who are into very obscure and experimental bands mostly have not heard them. I highly recommend them though. For starters I recommend "Rain Is When the Earth Is Television". Edited by BaldFriede |

Also worth considering in the Italian vein:
Le Orme (Uomo di Pezza, Felona e Sorona, Contrappunti, Collage, and In Concerto) Osanna (Landscape of Life, l'uomo, and Palepoli) Celeste (Principe di giorno) il Balletto di Bronzo (YS) Semiramis (Semiramis) If you find you like the genre, you can find more about Italian stuff in The Return of Italian Pop. http://www.btf.it/default.asp?ij=3&qa=p&qb=sc&xy =cl007&jk=355&zp=104D&ln=E&opt=dettaglio |

Damn good collection. One of the best posted here so far. The lack of
Marillion and other mainstream neo-prog just makes it all the better. |
