Arkitek's idea is excellent at least to potential subscribers.

I do wonder - and this is the reason why I didn't even think of such a possibility when I posted my previous message - if divinding the newsletter project into a number of "publications" would make the task even more troublesome and worksome than what it would be without the divition...

The task is, anyway, enourmous.

But I suppose I would subscribe to a non-metal prog newsletter

Cheers

I'm up for this - I'd be happy to contribute if you need any incoherent ramblings and puerile drivel.

I have just had an AMAZING idea (well i think it is amazing!)

You make several prog newsletters on the different genre's of prog (E.g. metal, folk, neo etc.) and then publish samples onto the website then let people choose which newsletter they would like to subscribe to. this would mean more information about a perticular genre and more people may subscribe to one of them as they won't have to deal with the genre they are not interested in.

What do you think M@X???

I'd like it to include the latest additions to Progarchives, bands and mp3s. I can never keep up with these so a list in the newsletter would be great for me.

And how about a colum from K00l prog guruz?

Of course i (and lots of progressive rock/metal fans around the world) would not regret a newsletter about this matter. I wonder why you hadn't thought about it before. Of course, an efficient newsletter implies not harrassing our e-mail inbox bins with spam, silly advertisement or stupid threads about nothing. So if this is the path to follow for this new progressive idea you can count with my blind vote.

Do I think it's a good idea, Yes for sure

Will I subscribe, No for sure

I never check my mail, and when I do I never read it.

But if I need to unsubscribe, I'll be a member for life

That's a good idea. I'm cool with that, as long as it's not lame.

I find the idea of a prog newsletter to be at least worth a try, even though I doubt I'd subscribe myself. I just cannot bring myself to actually read an online newsletter... Besides, I fear that I couldn't stand searching for information about music I love from the piles of prog metal sh**e that the newsletter would have to contain.

Being realistic, it's obvious that prog metal stuff must be included in order to gain enough subscriptions - without subscribers, such a huge project wouldn't make much sense, would it?

Were there decent international publications available on paper, I'd be more than happy to pay ridiculous amounts of money even if they'd contain the same prog metal sh*te as a online newsletter would. (But at least such a publication would have pictures of dragons, swords and girls in trouble / to be saved - aren't those the main themes of prog metal?).

But serously, I wish the newsletter project success and luck.

But I assure you that many a RIOphile or canterbuphile (nice words, eh?) will reconsider their subscription rather quickly if their first glance at the newsletter only gives them DT/Opeth/Symphony X tour dates or Ayreon release info.

I'm not actually afraid that such a disaster would happen really, but because the prog metal "scene" is rather big (and noisy) in comparison to "traditional" prog, the newsletter might easily turn to that direction.

After reconsidering, I think I'd subscribe and reconsider if I don't find the newsletter of interest or somehow witty and funny...

So you can count me in, or out, or inside out.

Cheers

-Beau

All:

Just for the record, I had nothing to do with this (other than passing along the suggestion to Max from another member).  So while I appreciate the praise, it is entirely undeserved.
