 Topic: What is your least favorite genre of music?

Pop music. You know, the horrible music on the radio with no feel or soul that is clearly made to just get stuck in your head and make money. If I was to be more specific I'd say Christmas music. It's like pop music in every way, except it's tons of artists all playing the same few songs over and over again.

Hip Hop... I would say Rap but some classic acts like Public Enemy are pretty good...

Hip Hop wins, although I don't know how to distinguish that from Rap very well, since I loathe both so much I never put in any effort to understand the difference...

everthing that's very shallow, not made with passion/ambition, just written by some very rich person who doesn't give a sh1t about antything else than the money...etc etc you get the drill
i'm not much of a genre listener, i tend to divide music into 3 classes: popular (not pop), prog and experimental. from the poll opinions i can find bands i like from every genre except for country and punk. and 99 % of rap is also complete pillock.
btw, why is prog not an poll alternative?

The two outfits I named in my post above, BooYah Tribe & Cyprus Hill use 'proper' instruments, but I can certainly see they'd not be to everyone's taste... but how boring life would be if everyone liked the same music, eh?

I really like Wyclef Jean, who sings and raps in two different languages, and plays the guitar in way that really compliments the music- a real talent.
And I quite like OutKast as well. Good stuff from them, and quite melodic throughout.

Sorry, Rap is repulsive for my taste:
Grand MasterFlash is a sampler and sampling is not creativity IMO, turntables are not musical instruments, just artifacts to play what real artists create, the same goes for Run DMC who sampled Hard Rock albums
I find Kurtis Blow as the most boring and repetitive rapper.I ever heard, speaking fast is not singing, not even Eddie Martinez with his support guitar could save this.
The Beastie Boys are a product for me, they played anything that was fashion, only during their hardcore Punk stage sounded decent
Parliament Funkadelic is anything but Rap, yesthey added someHip Hop toiuches, buuit they are a rich expression of Funk, Psyche, Pop, Blues etc they were sampled by rappers but they are an orchestra not rappers
Sorry again, but Rap IMO kills music.

Peter reckons country music is the most uncool genre to admit to having a liking for on here, but the poll seems to point that particular finger at rap 
Now, I'm not one to point the finger at any genre in particular (no matter whether it evidently sucks something called a 'dong' or not), but this poll isn't to lambast genres, rather to state which is your least favorite...
Of all those above, I'd probably say punk - always came/comes across to me like wannabe heavy metal bands who don't have the talent/inclination to do it properly  - Rap & hip-hop come a close second, although there are certain groups I do like (Boo-Yah Tribe & Cyprus Hill for example... eerrr - Yo!); BYT's 'pickin up metal' is an excellent anti-firearm song from a genre you wouldn't expect such from.
But, hey - that's just me and my humble opinions spouting off; whether or not they suck dong (or any other onomatopoeic bell references  ) I'll leave to the masses

(Anyway, please read my first post, above.)
Or not -- I don't care. But LOTS of country does not fit the typical commercial-radio-driven preconceptions and predjudices of many here.

Rap, I guess, especially mysogynist "gangsta" "I'm so tough" (c)rap I cannot relate to it in any way, shape or form. (I don't know the difference between rap & hip hop.)
I do like some metal (mainly older metal) but growly/screamy modern metal (especially if the lyrics are corn-pone cliches about demons, blood, death, etc,) drives me up the wall very fast. Still, I can often relate to some of the riffs -- the biggest problem for me is usually the grating vocals and "good vs evil" (  ) lyrics.
Notice that when someone villifies a given genre, someone else in the know will always say "ah, but that's only the commercial stuff you hear on the radio. You should check out...."
I could say the same about the much-maligned country (perhaps the "uncoolest" music to admit to liking around here). I know lots of good "country" artists who do interesting, original things, and/or who are obvious virtuosos on their instruments, but you'll never hear them on mainstream radio. 
I discover many on Internet radio station FolkAlley.com. They play a lot of classic folk, folk rock (Fairport, Steeleye, etc) , Celtic, plus country/bluegrass crossover artists, plus some "folkier" rock and even prog. Yes, prog! Recently I heard the Beatles on there ("Mother Nature's Son"), Genesis ("For Absent Friends"), Yes ("The Clap") and a killer, banjo-led rendition of "Long Distance Runaround."

(and George married Tammy Wynette so show a little compassion here please) Most of the rap and hip-hop I've heard does suck grievously but Ice-T, Public Enemy and De La Soul have produced work I like. (and both Lou Reed's Walk on the Wildside and Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues are kinda proto rap I guess) Ambient is the soundtrack for a flotation tank and tantamount to any old sh*t through a big reverb Trance is aptly named Have to say though that my pet hate (subject to change in about 10 seconds) is ANYTHING that assimilates GOTHIC affectations i.e. irrespective of genre, those pale/sepulchral/ sensitive/ dark little luvvies who think vitamin B deficiency, facial immobility, black nail varnish and lipstick are a passport to the demi monde. Glad I got that off my chest. Question: is there speed Doom Metal ? (I'm not taking the p*ss)
