Mastodon have been cleared by the Prog-Metal Specialist Team, stay tuned to see them on the archives! The team accepts volunteers willing to write a biography for cleared bands to make the process of adding new bands much quicker.

They're not nearly as ground breaking as you describe them (IMO) ... if you listen to John Zorn, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas etc. I think you'll discover that other artists did that "110% experimental" thing a decade ago (and Zappa did it in the 60s). I like Mastodon, I like the new album and consider it to be progressive - but it's not re-inventing the musical wheel. |

We discussed this recently. A number of people (including myself) think they should be included, and maybe they will be. On a side note, what did you think of Blood Mountain? I really love it and the bonus DVD that comes with the special edition album is really cool to watch. |

I'm a little puzzled as to why I see no mention of these guys whatsoever on this site. These guys are amazing and are definitely prog (any doubts should be aleviated by their most recent album Blood Mountain). Anyway, IMO they're more progressive than bands like Dream Theater could ever hope to be by the simple fact that they actually progress music. Just curious what other people's thoughts are. Sorry if this has been brought up before, but nothing came up when I used the search function. |
