Not exactly my personal cup of tea, but in general these two albums are probably some of the most appreciated Dutch Prog albums.

A lot of good recommendations in this thread, a few I have listened to , mainly German bands, but not Italian ones[ except for couple of PFM's works]. Whilst Can and Faust are mentioned [I would personally put in Faust IV over So Far though I like both of them very much],Kraftwerk seems to be missing. Their albums like 'Computerworld' like landmarks though I am not sure if they are even rock or proper electronic at this point.

Edit: I listened to Quella Vecchia Locanda's first effort and was surprisingly pleased. I won't say it was as good as PFM's peak but good enough to add to one's collection for regular listening.I scoured "All Music" for this LP and it states one of the genre as Western European Traditions though it doesn't sadly define the genre. I always linked it with some sort of classical listening and assumed the band was more mixing different instruments and creating good old prog sound reminiscent of so many bands

Peoples responses confused me a bit at first....I gave early on a list of Italian artists which is what you asked for at first, then people gave other areas either in a bunch or just one area...so didn't know when I should have posted my German artists but finally did as they are so close to my heart....

Hi,

On the Japanese and Indonesian for the 70's ...

Sadistic Mika Band - Hot Menu (1975)
Yellow Magic Orchestra - 1st (1978)

YMO founding member Yukihiro Takahashi (drums) played with the Sadistic Mika Band.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

And here's my Italian top 10, one album per artist. It can change in a few weeks, I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Premiata Forneria Marconi - Per Un Amico (1972)
Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra (1973)
Maxophone - Maxophone (1975)
Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Darwin (1972)
Locanda delle Fate - Forse le Lucciole Non Si Amano Più (1977)
Quella Vecchia Locanda - Quella Vecchia Locanda (1972)
Le Orme - Florian (1979)
New Trolls - Concerto Grosso (1971)
Jumbo - Vietato ai Minori di 19 Anni (1973)
Franco Leprino - Integrati... Disintegrati (1977)

^ I didn't know Atila, it's really good!

I'll balance the list with more Portuguese Prog, in order of preference:
Quarteto 1111 - Onde Quando Como Porquê Cantamos Pessoas Vivas (1975)
Banda do Casaco - Hoje Há Conquilhas Amanhã Não Sabemos (1977)
Jorge Palma - Com uma Viagem na Palma da Mão (1975)
Petrus Castrus - Ascensão e Queda (1978)
Ananga Ranga - Regresso às Origens (1979)

I rediscovered Area thanks to the Italian lists, I like it very much now. I wasn't ready for it when I started listening to RPI. The same for Banco, my appreciation for their music grew in the past year.

Btw, that's quite understandable, as those two albums are more of my personal favourites than generally much appreciated, but I've removed them now from my list to make it more stricktly in line with my OP.
