This post is almost four years old, but I see that this poll confused a few people.  And I'm not really sure what is considered Prog Metal, or PM enough. I might have done this as must not have released its debut album before 1998 or something like that.  I was going to say post 2000, but the late was a good year for releases on the metal side.  I like lots included in PA's Experimental/ Post Metal and various of it I have not really thought of as metal, such as Uboa.  I also like in that category Boris, maudlin of the Well, Neurosis, but that was founded in the 80s, Pelican, Sigh.... I anyway, I went with Between the Buried and Me from the list. There are albums I like included in all of the metal categories at PA (and in all of the categories at PA, for that matter).

EDIT: Reading though page two, looks like there is some very good stuff mentioned for me to check out more from.

BTBAM is not exactly my thing. There is a Romanian band called White Walls that apparently is very much influenced by BTBAM and i like that band quite a bit. EmbarrassedSmile

^ If you want to sample, here's one of my favorite tracks from my favorite releases.

Tie between Haken and BtBaM, so the latter gets my vote.

I don't know any of the bands in the poll so my irrelevant non-vote goes to Ayreon. Smile

Of that list, I've only heard a bit of Haken and Leprous... that's it. I seem to remember thinking that both were OK, but not enough of my thing to start exploring their discographies. Maybe if I'd given them more time and repeated listens, I'd get hooked on them, but I just didn't have the inclination.... Ermm

Definitely have to go with Gojira. The Link, From Mars to Sirius, and The Way of All Flesh are like a modern metal holy trinity for me

But I'd also put Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, Animals as Leaders, and Protest the Hero as strong runner-up bands Smile

Ill reiterate, I deliberately did not want to include Devin Townsend, Dream Theater, Opeth, etc. I wanted that next tier or generation of bands to be reflected in this poll. So I am indeed curious what else was deserving to be here.

As I said, I also enjoy ArcaneVotum's Harvest MoonProghma-C's Bar-do TravelsFenSeiges EvenMastodonAgalloch, and Negura Bunget's Om.

I just clicked on the first track listed on Spotify... Im blown away. Thank you for this!

However, if that track is anything to go by, this is definitely more of a heavy prog group.
