I can't really answer to that, but I doubt this would really happen... |

Yeah, but what if someone from (for example) China decided to write a review in his native language? No one would probably understand it. How could we be sure that he wrote anything about the music? |

The language seem to be a priority for you, but, honestly, I do not see any problem with a review in a foreign language. A good review in another language is a lot of time better than no review. It might also motivate more people (such as me) to write reviews if they do not feel comfortable enough with their english. And then, it will help some people who are in difficulty with english to understand better the reviewing, and might even bring more people to the site. And I would push it further, and force to write for over 150 words. |

EL: I still don't see why my approach wouldn't work:
This would be VERY easy to implement, and it's quite compatible with how the system works now. I admit that I'm very curious to see who made all those 1 star rating for the prog metal masterpieces ... |

Goose, the problem with reviews not in English is moderating them. How do we know if they comply with the guidelines? I readily admit the word "ignorant" is entirely valid, but we are where we are. |

I don't see the problem with foreign language reviews, so long as they could be filtered out for we ignorant people who only speak one language.

I think that the procedure is correct, that category does not ask you for your opinion,or a short commentary, but for a review, which by definition, has to contain a larger amount of information and presentation than a normal opinion... |

This is correct, in Britain the word sl*g is well known as a woman who sleeps around! Very common word, but not that bad to say in speech. There are far worse words.. |

I've already indicated I personally support your proposal that ratings only reviews should not be accepted. The decision on whether or not to included them (or how to treat them if they are accepted) lies with the site owners, Rony & M@X. |

I'm not talking about the front page - I'm talking about the album page, where you go to find out all about the album. Currently you only see a part of the ratings ... it would be an enormous help for me to see who made these reviewless ratings. I suspect that it's only a small number of people who make these ratings. |

Let's take for example me writing a review on "Foxtrot",saying: "I like it...it is good" 6 words and a five-star rating, would you post that on the front page? ![]() |

And just why are ratings without reviews not listed on the reviews pages? It's not fair to all the people who bothered to write a review. If a single 1 star rating eithout review was listed among a series of elaborate 5 star reviews, people could put the 1 star rating into proper relation. |

Just to clarify, reviews with less than 50 words are accepted, they just don't appear on the reviews pages. They are effectively treated as ratings without reviews.

not at all, it's a completely acceptable word. It's origin is "the scoriaceous lava from a volcano" (from Webster's). So even if it is used in a slang-y fashion, as I did above, it can't possibly be considered grossly vulgar. But whatever, not important, let's get back to the subject at hand...
Of course ... I made a suggestion a while ago: Add a checkbox that allows people to decide whether their review should be published or not. So they could write a few sentences which would only be visible for admins, to help them to determine whether the reviewer listened to the album or not. I didn't get any feedback ... maybe this will be implemented in the new version of the archives.
