^I wasn´t really expecting him to change course
I´m going to stream Lulu tonight, and as a warm up I´m listening to Rock n´ Roll Animal. Maybe the best live album ever!!! One of those desert island albums for sure. |

^ David, he doesn't do much singing on this one either and your observations on his vocals pretty much sum up Lulu. Nevertheless, enjoy!

I´m really looking forward to this one. I love both artists, well maybe Lou a bit more. I just wish he´d sing more these days. He seems more into talking than vocal melodies these days. It´s not like he was a major rock n roll tenor back in the day though, - in fact I´d call him an anti-singer, but lately he seems to have ignored melody completely in his vocal lines - and focusses entirely on the words.
I´m still pretty psyched about this release though And Paul, I feel much the same about those "worst of" threads. Feels like an open invitation to those that only feed off negativity and the sheer thrill of putting other people´s tastes down All you need is love baby!!! |

^ It's certainly going to be controversial. I'm sure many Reed fans will hate it as will many Metallica fans. You're right, it does falter at times - it's certainly not perfect, but I feel it's a worthwhile collaboration.

I know what you're saying, being a pretty big Reed fan and somewhat of a Metallica fan, I found the album an interesting collaboration and an ambitious shot at something new. Sure it falters at times but that's to be expected.

For me, that album is a Lou Reed album, with Metallica acting as a support band.
Lulu can be streamed here: http://www.loureedmetallica.com/listen-to-lulu.php EDIT: And you can review it now! See: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=35265 Edited by tupan - November 05 2011 at 09:38 |

Surprised to see there's no thread yet on the Lou Reed and Metallica collaboration Lulu. Anyone listened yet? I've been playing it a bit over the last week and after initail reservations I've got to admit it's very good. Better in fact and certainly more groundbreaking than anything Metallica have done in the last 20 years. It's recognisably Metallica and yet it's not. They've come up with some of their best riffs in a long time yet it's simpler (genereally speaking), incredibly heavy riffs often accompanied by a drone (which works really well) with Reed's often almost spoken delivery over the top.
It shouldn't work but it really does.
I was going to review it and noticed it's not listed under Metallica yet. Don't want to tread on any team toes so I've not added it myself as I wanted to enquire whether this is considered more a Lou Reed album and therefore not valid for PA? My own thoughts is that it's equally a Metallica release and should be on here. Any thoughts?
