A favoured album from each PA category

Some things never change. First attempt to reply vanished into the ether behind a access denied error. Fortunately a partial copy was in the clipboard, so I'll fill the remainder and try again.

These are today's picks. Probably a little different tomorrow. Many of these subs have very broad scopes. RIO is like ordering Indian food, there are very distinct spice levels to be aware of.

For Electronic, the album I chose is my favorite in the sub, but arguably not an electronic album.

I dislike 99.9% of Neo-Prog. Fortunately, the album I chose is decidedly not Neo-Prog.

The sound is very similar to symphonic prog of the 70's in a somewhat Genesis-like style. Check also my review about the album.

Thanks. Yes, find the classifications can be more than a bit confusing. My first choice from the Neo-Prog category, Duster, doesn't sound at all like Neo-Prog to me... sounds like Neo-Space Rock/ Neopsych, and I would not have expected Uboa to be in a metal category (I would like a new category for experimental/ industrial and related music). Not having genre multi-tagging and not being able to label albums is an unfortunate limitation of this site. Of course the teams try to do do the best they reasonably can given the limitations of this site and the voluntary workload they can take on. I have not liked the term Krautrock either, but it has become widely accepted.

None of those are in my collection either, but I do stream a lot. None of them are personal favourites, but they seemed to fit your "ask" fairly well. For a better group, you could try Agitation Free (I just thought it might get too out there for you) which I mentioned but did not include specific music.





I should started with the primo stuff. There is way more to Krautrock of course than Can.

^^ Thanks FL. Morte Macabre's was my first pick from the Heavy Prog category too. Also Adore Red, love the Heldon and really like various others in the list. Kind of a funny idea, I guess, depending on perspective. I do like funny! Even if I rarely manage it the way I want. ;) I like to see people tastes across categories, as well as comparing lists. Also kind of interesting to see people's approaches, who feels comfortable enough (and makes the time) to come up with a list and who does not.

Another way would be to check out the top albums per category using the top 100 or top 250 albums chart and checking each category.

I know for some it is too hard to choose one, but I find there are many strategies to limit that, like what was the last album you remember hearing and liking from the category. Ones you have spun the most times. One's current mood. Limiting decade or year etc. I doubt many of us would have many liked from every category at PA.

As for Krautrock, it is a broad brush and PA does limit what it puts in there.   Can took me ages to really get into. My first Krautrock (as PA categorises it) love was Agitation Free, which I suggest trying at some time.

Then Sperrmüll is quite like early Eloy if you can enjoy that period.



You might like some Mythos and Electric Sandwich. The debut by Mythos is pretty well known and I think it might get too out there for you, but here is the less-known Strange Guys from 1978:
