I guess that's what he means most: he abused substances (inck booze) so much that he should've died much earlier, like a lot of "martyrs" the rock culture enhances too much.

But both Richards and Daevid (well the latter was clean for a couple of decades) show that you can live old and still engage in hazy pastures.

He (Pete) himself wrote "Hope I die before I get old" (and had Roger sing it) and I guess it's disturbing to live with that: they survived but the other two didn't. Ouch

I take it he also feels remorse (or regrets) towards Loon and The Ox for not having done more to help them.

I don't think anyone deserves to die, but I respect his revelations based on his past actions. He is a brilliant song writer, easily one of the greatest.

He seems a lightweight compared to Keith Richards ;-)
