Well, this was bound to happen, because some people are just so immature!

The main reason for allowing "empty" reviews is to enable people with poor language skills to rate albums.

Yes, I know this, its still a problem though!

Of course ... I made a suggestion a while ago: Add a checkbox that allows people to decide whether their review should be published or not. So they could write a few sentences which would only be visible for admins, to help them to determine whether the reviewer listened to the album or not.

I didn't get any feedback ... maybe this will be implemented in the new version of the archives.

As soon as you enter something, it must be at least 50 words ... but if you leave the textarea blank ... no problem. It really sucks.

Agreed ... look at this album's ratings:

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_CD. asp?cd_id=7372

Three reviews (two by collaborators), all 4 stars. yet the average rating is 3.25 ... because one person rated the album 1 star without stating why. This is like a punch in the face for EVERYBODY who puts a lot of time into writing reviews.

My categorical opinion is that ratings without review should not be allowed on this site.

The reason for this suggestion arised from my recent negative experience of how misleading unsupported rating can be.

I was contemplating to purchase the album by unknown to me German band Inquire. The album in question is their latest masterpiece "Melancholia". After having checked this site, and having found one rating of one star, I dropped an idea to buy the album. Luckily on later stage I was persuaded by friend, who bought it, to have a listen. And I was totally amazed by how brilliant this work is. Now I proudly own this CD, and it is my latest favorite along with two albums by Taal.

If rating should be low in someone's opinion - that's fine with me (I am myself giving lots of 1 star ratings), but same should be supported by at least 50 words review with the name of reviewer on it. In this case I would probably recognise that this album is very worth listening to.

Unsupported anonymous opinions on websites like this one are just ruining the idea of the site.

Your thoughts, please
