I heard GVF is just Starcastle reformed after they heard Yes' Heaven and Earth album and said with a resounding voice "NOPE ! We're out ! What other band can we mimic?" |

The inflated ego of Dave Grohl?? Dude's gotta be one of the most down to earth rock stars of all time. Where are you getting that impression from?

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I finally listened to the album, and I f***ing loved it! Every song in here its a piece on his own. the bassist Samuel Kiszka is also play keyboards on the album, and its add so much. it don't feel like regular rock songs, it more complex and intresting. great druming, amazing guitar playing and incredble singing. the only problem is that the album is a little bit too long and some of the songs at the end are fillers. |

They have a couple songs that sound like Led Zeppelin but overall I just don't think the clone rep is fair. Are GVF the best thing since sliced bread? No. But I'll take them over the inflated ego of Dave Grohl and those awful Foo Fighters.

I tend to agree with you :) Great album, magnificent. Check out the Candlelight sessions. This one grabbed me - Tears of Rain - i did shed a tear : The Candlelight sessions for Broken Bells was amazing and like Tears of Rain, better than on the album. And finally, check out the great guitar solo in this 8:56 min track The Weight of Dreams I like this album a lot to be honest. I don't care if GVF are ridiculed - they certainly do not deserve it. I guess there's no such thing as bad publicity, so i'll go with this thread for now ;P |

I'm sorry, if you were right, I'd agree with you. Robin Williams.

Doesn't sound as much like Zeppelin. Vocalist seems to sing more in his natural voice. Both good things.

Owie, five pages already for a supposedly surrogate band.... Never heard of them, and this discussion incited me to at least listen to their latest album. Well,
it's not an endeavour of originality, that's for sure, but it is not
that bad over all. I don't mind the singer, he sounds quite sincere in
what he's doing and as such not being in an imitation game (although he
sounds indeed like Geddy Lee and/or Robert Plant, but when it's good
that's fine with me). The playing is quite good too, but the songwriting
seems to me rather average. All this, imo, gives a decent rock album,
but also very forgettable (and not very prog). I don't know why we should compare them to
Rush or Led Zep (or others), because it is just not on the same level of
originality and skill, but it is not unpleasant either. They may be the equivalent to Led Zep as all the Wobblers, Änglagård, Flower Kings, Porcupine Trees, Transatlantics, etc. are to the Greats of Prog, in a way, but I know I will hurt some feelings here... BTW, I agree with ProjecKct that the sound compression is indeed quite terrible - destroys quite a bit of the listening pleasure...

Nope. There's a big difference between influenencied and cloning. GVF are clones. As the guy noted in the video, he's an idiot. (Even without the hat and shades).

I know, I know. But I guess you haven't listen to THIS album, because it's really awful. See here. So we've got: pretty average music, a singer that is yelling all the time... and crazy dynamic-range compression on the top of that! Wow, such a nice listening experience!

I'm listening to the album right now... track 3 "Broken Bells" is playing. Average stuff, not good nor bad.
But I'm surprised to be the first mentioning it: the sound compression is AWFUL! It's barely listenable to me! Please stop this loudness war!
