Had trouble finding this thread but here we are tucked in nice and tight in the Proto Prog and Prog-Related Lounge. My bad, as I remember this band are the kings of Proto Prog.
Well, I have a question - Are there any good songs on "Spectres" or "Mirrors", "Club Ninja" or "Heaven Forbid"? I dont have the albums but willing to get some itunes or something.

I remember watching them perform the "Secret Treaties" album at the "Shubert theatre" , Philadelphia, 1974. What a strange concert. Kids dressed in black cloaks. Surely not the entire audience, but about 2 rows of the seating. The band was very tight and we waited for the bombs to go off in one particular song...which I can't recall it's title? Shame on me! The bomb sounds were panned from left to right channel and the mix was really impressive. Super impressive. The opening act was Golden Earring. Anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse. I like Sandy Pearlman's lyrics and I have about 7 cd's of B.O.C. They are good for a Halloween party. One particular rock cover band I played with performed at a Halloween party. We were dressed like vampires and played "After Dark" to a huge audience. That song along with "Joan Crawford" ...I can't believe the dark energy and humour within those 2 songs. B.O.C. compare to ..or are sometimes more crafty then dark European rock bands from the 70's...like Lucifer Was, Lucifer's Friend, Omega (200 Years After the Last War), and even Guru, Guru's "Dagobert's 100th Birthday. They were influenced by the MC5 and also I hear a little influence of the DOORS in there somewhere...but they certainly rate with the more interesting dark rock bands from Europe during the 70's.

Spectres - Godzilla, I Love the Night. maybe Nosferatu also.
Mirrors is not a very good album. You could give In Thee a try, though.

I actually like Spectres. It has Godzilla, Golden Age of Leather, I Love the Night, Death Valley Nights and Nosferatu. All good songs.
Mirrors does have The Vigil and In Thee and the Great Sun Jester, but that's about the extent of the good songs on that one.
Club Ninja does nothing for me.
The first half of Heaven Forbid is pretty good actually and has the excellent Harvest Moon, but the second half starts to get kinda bleh.

If I can be the voice of dissent here, I'd like to stand up for Mirrors, which I think is quite good. Is it their proggiest album? Certainly not, but it is chock full of good pop songs. "In Thee" is perfect and has a wonderful guitar solo, You're Not The One I was Looking For is great, as are the title track, Moon Crazy, The Vigil and I Am The Storm. Lonely Teardrops has kind of a cool disco thing going on, but I know most people hate disco, so I am probably alone. The only really bad track on the album is Dr. Music.

Tyranny & Mutation is my favorite, in that I utterly dig every song. The only flaw I can think of is that I wish the drums had more "oomph" production-wise. The guitar sound is nice & sharp though.

The last song, "Lonely Teardrops" is great!! Cool tune, nice snappy clav line in that one from Allen.
I like nearly everything BOC did from 76-81, especially Agents-Mirrors-Cultosaurus Erectus triple threat.
And that album they did a few years back, Curse Of The Hidden Mirror...best one since Fire Of Unknown Origin!
I wonder if they'll record new material again...

^For me, Imaginos, Fire of Unknown Origin and Secret Treaties are their top three. Agents was pretty cool, but I got real tired of (Don't Fear) The Reaper. Cultosaurus Erectus is a great album too.
