Western Culture is one of the truly great albums in PA for me.  It took me some time to fully appreciate it.
I think it really stands out from the rest of the Henry Cow albums.  Sounds like music from another world.  My clear favorite of their albums.  Had anything but Magma MDK been up there competing with it, I would probably have voted for it.

I like all of the Henry Cow albums, but Western Culture is such a stand-out that I had to vote for it.  I also love MDK, of course, but partially because I have so many versions of it, and more than 20 Magma albums in my collection, the MDK studio album becomes less essential.  For a time I preferred various live versions, but I went back to preferring the studio album.  MDK was actually the more important discovery for me in my musical journey, but I haven't returned to it much over the last few years.  Unlike Western Culture, MDK was love at first listen for me.  That said, Western Culture is one of those albums that I have to be in the right mood for to really enjoy, unlike most Magma which I always seem to be able to enjoy.

Two of the albums in this poll list made my top ten when Raff did a topic on ten favourite albums in 2007: MDK and You .  Seems weird to me now that I put those Eskaton and Picchio dal Pozzo albums over their débuts.
