Magma takes the last one but on this final poll will the most popular Magma album come out on top ?
Too many amazing albums here but for me it's between Western Culture and Fish Rising.
Happy voting !

Went with Fish Rising. How about Dave Stewart ripping it up with the fuzzed out organ on that opening track !

It was a toss-up between You, Fish Rising and Hawkwind but the Warrior has sucha special history with me...(Lemmy's very last concert)

It looks like you saved the best for last John. A lot of good stuff here of course, but I'll have to go with probably one of the best live albums out there - Solar Music!!

Heard 'em all except the Grobshnitt one. Hard not to vote for You. The studio version of MDK sucks balls compared to any live version; that's not my opinion, that's a scientific fact.

That "Fish Rising" album along with "You" are almost like brothers with a lot of the same performers on each.

I'm guessing you'd really like the Grobschnitt but the Hoyry Kone is fairly avant-garde but who knows. The real question is does Tori Hunter like Eminem ?

| One of those "surprise" bands for me is that I really like Alamaailman Vasarat (i.e. Al The Mail Man Was A Rat) and I have been told that Hoyry Kone is even better. Unfortunately, I have not heard them and odds may be good that I never will as it appears there is little interest in ever reissuing those albums or making them available. But maybe?
Not sure if Torii likes Eminem or not, but I have it on good authority that he likes 50 Cent, although he'd prefer 50 Million. I think that he is a pretty good upgrade/addition to left field. Better than if we had added Josh Hamilton or Nick Swisher or traded the farm for Justin Upton.

Yeah Tori can do it all so i think he's a great pickup. I'm just hoping the Yankees don't go after Hamilton. I forgot that you liked Alamaailman Vasarat because you probably would like Hoyry-Kone then. I've been told that the band has no interest in re-issuing their two albums unfortunately. Hopefully that will change in the future.

I don't think I've heard the Grobschnitt, but when I was first investigating international (i.e. not American or British) progressive rock, that album was mentioned often as a standard-bearer for the genre. Thanks for reminding me.... I should really give it a try.

| Yeah, I like the Hamilton to Seattle rumors. I'd rather not see him in Yankee pinstripes.
With the Hoyry Kone that is one that I would be happy to purchase in download format, which you would think would be easy for the band to authorize selling it that way.

I'm astounded that Western Culture had no votes, and have rectified that somewhat disturbing, or perhaps downright appaling, situation. I like all of these albums to some extent, but I think that You and MDK would come second for me, then others. I prefer H-K's debut, and never really got into Fish Rising, by the way.

Western Culture is one of the truly great albums in PA for me. It took me some time to fully appreciate it.
Regarding Hoyry-Kone: I found Hyonteisia voi Rakasta more satisfyingly varied in expression, and interesting, on the whole than Huono Parturi, but both are pretty excellent. Actually, though I was really into both albums at one time, I haven't listened to either album much over the last few years.

OK, let's get this nonsense out of the way first - No votes for Kanguru?!?! I'm going to fix that right now, and I'm not just voting for it because I'm being patriotic!
Love the dirty psychedelic groove on tracks like `Oxymoron'...I'm going to give that album a spin right now!
Surely the problem here is that pretty much ALL of the other albums are stunners, especially the Gong, Hawkwind and Hillage ones!
When I first started getting into prog so many years ago, one of the CD's I had was that live Solar Music Grobschnitt one, and I thought it was total rubbish, I just couldn't get my head around it. I cashed it in at a local 2nd hand music shop for a couple of bucks....
These days I would KILL (or seriously hurt!) to have that album right now to listen to! I clearly just wasn't ready for it yet....

I like all of the
Henry Cow albums, but Western Culture is such a stand-out that I had to
vote for it. I also love MDK, of course, but partially because I have
so many versions of it, and more than 20 Magma albums in my collection,
the MDK studio album becomes less essential. For a time I preferred
various live versions, but I went back to preferring the studio album.
MDK was actually the more important discovery for me in my musical
journey, but I haven't returned to it much over the last few years.
Unlike Western Culture, MDK was love at first listen for
me. That said, Western Culture is one of those albums that I have to be
in the right mood for to really enjoy, unlike most Magma which I always
seem to be able to enjoy.
Two of the albums in this poll list made my top ten when Raff did http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=40964&PN=3" rel="nofollow - a topic on ten favourite albums in 2007: MDK and You . Seems weird to me now that I put those Eskaton and Picchio dal Pozzo albums over their débuts.
