The first thing American's do when they see a great British comedy is say "that's great, let's see how we can butcher it!"
A perfect example is the US version of The Office. But there were also US versions of Red Dwarf and Coupling which were so bad I couldn't believe it. Why bother trying to mess with perfection? it was quite obvious from the start that you'll never be able to top those shows.

We are Red Dwarf addicts in my household.Have all 8 seasons on VHS and 1-6 on DVD and are RABID in our love and devotion for that show.We recently got our hands on the pilot episode of the American version and it was an absolute travesty.Bad beyond belief.
We watch a lot of Coupling too and when they showed it here in America(the American version),we didn't even bother to watch because we new it would SUCK,And it did.
