Sabbath bloody Sabbath and Sabotage.
This was Sabbath at their most interesting and innovative. Sabotage in particular has long been my favorite Sabbath album anyway. I love the sense of insanity that hangs over the album. I think Ozzy sings better on this album than most of the others from any era.

What for????? +++++++++Don't you think that Vol4 and MoR are completely different? They can't be paired IMO. +++++++++You had better argue for what reason you prefer Paranoid to the ohter albums instead of criticizing my point of view

If you had put their debut with Paranoid, it would have been tougher.
For me it's option 2, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is Heavy Prog (or Prog Metal) of the best kind or simply awesome hard rock if you want to call it that way. Sabotage is incosistent, but still some really great new stuff that Sabbath hadn't done previous to it. |
Can you tell me what's progressive in those 2 albums you mentioned above? Progressive compared to most albums published about same time? Progressive compared to other Sabbath's albums ?

The third pair of albums that I've mentioned is IMO more progressive than any other Sabbath's album. Music is more complex and more various - I would compare it with RUSHs' early works. And these albums are still underrated because of a stereotype that BS is just a heavymetal band. I'm sure if you listen to these albums more thoroughly you'll understand what I'm talking about.
But it's just my vision of BS creative searches. I thought I would find at least 1 person holding the same views but ....

I love entire Sabbath output with Ozzy, so I won't vote.
I don't think they're prog, not even prog-related, however, they did some awesome stuff with epic feel, like 'Wheels Of Confusion'. They also had that nuclear war/post-apocalyptic/science fictione vibe that resembles prog rock vibe. Great band.

Actually I just listened Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. You're right and I must admit that hearing it was a nice surprise to me. It opened the world of Black Sabbath little bit more to me and I will continue my journey which stopped to Master Of Reality decades ago ;) But though they are more complex and various in BS category, they still are not progressive rock to me. Just excellent heavy rock albums. Thanks!

Can´t really vote as my 3 BS favourites are Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, Headless Cross, three different vocalists, three works of art ..

None of the above.
Why? You didn't list Volume 4! Now that's a perfect mix of the early darkness and the mid-period progginess.

Worse mistake is omitting of Black Sabbath´s debut. |
"Mistake"? It's a FORUM or it's an investigation?? I've included just my favourite albums - or it's a mistake to love them?
Their debut belongs to Paranoid's\Master era and Vol4 can't be paired IMO with any BS album - so I haven't included it
+I'm sure there were a lot of polls where all Sabbath's classic albums were represented - and I don't see any point to make the same poll again |
OK.
