Well here is my second installment to the progressive metal world. If you would've cared to listen to the first (Pictures in Mirrors Part 2), then you will definitely enjoy this one a lot more. This one contains yours truly doing a few low pitched death growls. This ones also more complex and features some polymetric(ish) riffs and a very post-metal air about it. Have a butchers please
![]() And give me your conclusions ![]() Liberty.mp3 or to download... Edit: These are now the remastered versions. I took some advice from you guys and EQ'd it all properly, so now you can hear every instrument. Edited by The Pessimist - March 21 2009 at 20:57 |

Very good stuff. I like the vocals, but also the use of different styles within one song. The first part is really atmospheric but my prefered section is the middle section with vocals ( the section between the post metal start and the ending more technical riffing). I must admit that I agree with Atavachron that the ending riffs might not suit the cohesiveness of the song that well. Interesting song though. Letīs hear more

Again, this music is really good, but the mix on the recording needs quite a bit of work. The biggest thing again is that the drums are way too low compared to the melodic instruments. Have you read about mixing and EQing things so they each have their own space in the mix? Right now the parts are all over each other.
The transitions also need something to hold them together a little more. But there are some awesome building blocks, well on their way. Great stuff man.

Wow, this mix is much much better. The middle section still has a massive amount going on in the high mids, but this certainly is an improvement.
I love the end sections now so much better, heavier, nastier, more headbanging. Great job. Edited by Negoba - March 23 2009 at 09:33 |

What I'm talking about is probably at the low highs (I'm guessing between 2000-1000k, I used to know these things by number better, I'm out of practice) but basically, the rasp of the voice (also some effects), some of the cymbal sound, and some of the distortion sizzle are all occupying about the same EQ space. The bass sounds good. Distortion on the guitar I think is the big culprit on this one. (My oldest recording tip in the book, less distortion...I could go on but that's not the point here) What's suffering is that the voice is getting pushed back in the mix. Voice, virtually always, need to sit on top...center, drier, more compressed (within reason) and with it's fundamentals intact. The other stuff gets pushed back to more or less degree by EQ sculpting, pushing out in the stereo field, down in volume / less compression.
