Guys... as I already suggested in the past ... we want complete discography of each artist in PA .Also .. can some suggest a couple of mp3s for Miles ? |
Hi Max, You will get a complete discography of Miles eventually, it's just going to take some time. I will keep adding as will many others. |
yea it cant be done in one sitting haha BTW Filles de Kilimanjaro was released in 1968, not 1969

That's exactly the same argument as the one that runs; Metallica recorded many albums that aren't Prog Metal...
I don't agree with Miles' inclusion, but I guess it's too late.
|
A bad idea to bring Metallica up in this thread ... I tried and got a lot of flak for it.

I eat flak for breakfast.
Bring it on.
Besides, you didn't get any flak in this thread, Mike - the only reply, from Easy Money, was supporting this argument, as so many are on the forum these days.
I think reason is dawning...

Corn flaks??? ... for breakfeast???
It's hard to think of another genre (metal) more intertwined with prog rock, unless it is jazz fusion.
P.S. I'm too old to listen to metal anymore, but I can hear the connection.
Which guitarist influenced the most guitar players on this site ... could be Eddie Van Halen ha ha ha ... not really metal I suppose, but interesting to think about.

Back in the day Van Halen was considered one of the ultimate Metal guitarists in magazines like Kerrang! (I still own issues 1-3 that I bought at the time, but chucked out 4-50ish... ) - but I think that Joe Satriani possibly fits the bill of "most influential", with the usual suspects, Clapton, Page, Beck, Blackmore and Hendrix up there somewhere.
I chose Satriani because of who he learned with (jazz greats Lennie Tristano and Billy Bauer) and who he taught (Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, et al).
I also think that the largely unsung (in terms of influence) Roth and Schenker, Gary Moore (did I ever mention he was my roadie once?), and Alvin Lee deserve a lot more credit than they get in terms of bottom-line influences - but maybe that's just me...

Thanks all for adding Miles to PA. As a relative newcomer to the site I could never figure out why all of his spawn were included, but not his groundbreaking work from electric era. Even in strict jazz terms he was always ahead of his time...there's a reason The Birth of the Cool is called that. Certainly a welcome addition!

i was wondering that for years! Im so glad he's here now. adding all those albums were a pain in the ass, but definitely worth it. Im sure theres a few missing, but the majority of albums are there now. I've already reviewed a few albums. btw i dont think Coltrane or Brubeck will make it to this site. Maybe if we all start a sibling website called Jazz Archives. Who's up for that??

sounds like a hoot.... but my internet days are rapidly drawing to a close... no programming skills to speak of.. could only help with content.. and by the time you all got a site up and running.. I"ll be semi-retired so to speak hahah. Good luck though... as David noted early this morning... if you have a wife.. start saving for alimony.. kids.. pfff.. forget about them. Did you all see the link to the site that handles jazz PRE 1930. This site ..and the work involved is nothing compared to what a similar site modelled on jazz would take. In time, resourse, and manpower.

Folks, isn't it time to start a Miles Davis Appreciation thread there in the main Prog Lounge?
For any other artist/band to be suggested, it's simple: just open a new thread. Thanks!
