Top Mellotron albums of all time

 

Yes, Andy Thompson's website is known here for a source for Mellotron infos.  I sometimes collaborates to help Andy find new albums, specially french language albums featuring it.

 

I Have that SFF live album, and if you like mellotron , you should buy it but personnally I don't think that'st the best mellotron album of all time.  It's sure it contain a lot of the instrument but for me, SFF music is a bit cold but it certainly the album that had the most of it.  The album just below SFF in the list, wich is Air "Virgins Suicide" soundtrack is awesome.Very recommended.

 

Yes, I heard that the Quaterto 1111 and José Cid's album contains great deal of mellotron but never heard them.  PlanetMellotron also add recently Ermelinda Duarte single "Somo livre" from 1974, wich also deal with the revolution and the ascension of the democracy in Portugual.  The mellotron of that track is played by José Cid. I hope that the Jose Cid album will be available in Quebec.

 

I think those albums are important for portugueses people as us, quebecers worship the Harmonium album "Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison"  wich also deal with politic.

Yeah. Every year, in the day of the revolution, it is impossible not to listen to Zeca Afonso, musically the most important musician connnected to the revolution. Quarteto 1111 is no exception, they had problems with the censorship starting with their first album.. It is important to listen to these albums, as they are historical documents of that season.

 

  

I'm portuguese, but I'm also a lover of that fabulous album from your country, an absolutely masterpiece of progressive rock, but I must say I had no idea of its lyrical content, but if It deals with politics, one more reason for your worship for it (historical value), and one more reason to say it's excellent.

I wish I knew and understood French properly, so I could analyse the album lyrically. Even without seeing that, the album is a rare pearl, and so, I worship it too, althought in other terms, just for music right now.(right now because someday I will understand It, after I try to remember what I've learned in French some years ago, I have forgotten almost everything)

 

Yes, Harmonium "Si on avait besoin d'une ciquième saison" , specially the song "Depuis l'automne" told the events that took place in October 1970 and relates the event that historians here names "La crise d'Octobre" (October crisis) where the "Front de libération du Québec" kidnapped a minister in order to  speed up the independance of Quebec.  The minister was killed and the independance of Quebec never happened. The album also told the rise of the independantist party "Parti Québecois" who took the power in 1976 (the Harmonium album is from 1975, so some months before). Harmonium was an independantist band and was closely associated with the "Parti Québecois".

 

But to compare it with the revolution that took place in your country in 1974 is pretty lame.  Portugual before 1974 was a military dictature where the artists and dissidents  where tortured, sometimes killed. The urgence of a revolution was more evident than here . In Quebec, we were relativity free of speech but there were inegalities that were more about differences between the english speaking people vs. the french speaking. But it's sure that the album told events that took place in 1970.

 

To change subject ( on a lighter side) , I've read you are from Porto.  There's a lot of good wines in your place that I liked a lot(i'm a fan), so Cheers!
