O joy, another negative thread, and featuring Dream Theater too. Lets see how long this one lasts |
Quite so. Even feeling sick about Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Rush or Pain Of Salvation isn't original anymore. A shame that 2007 is, after all, made of so many new albums, and so much diversity, yet these artists's new goodies are constantly the most loved/hated.

Can't say I've listened to any bad prog albums this year, but I did think Fear of a Blank Planet was disappointing. I can't even pinpoint why it just seemed...lacking compared to their other releases. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Jean Michel Jarre - Teo and Tea |
When I was a kid we used to have a comic TV show for children, by the duo Theo and Thea. Can't help it, but the association makes me want to try this album
Here they are:

Oh dear.. they look so RIO!
My turkey of the year: JMJ - Teo & Tea. Decent dance/house music, but bad for Jarre's standards!

RIO/AVANT/ZEUHL - The best thing you can get with yer pants on!

I think that Scarsick is not that bad. Maybe it woul be a better idea to release it as a Daniel Gildenlöw solo project under the moniker Rage Against the Stairmaster or something like that. The worst about this album that it is supposed to be 2nd part of The Perfect Element.

No offense, but what's with everyone buying music they don't like? Don't you read reviews and/or listen to samples first? I honestly can't recall the last time I bought what I consider to be a poor album.
(Though it happened to me a bit in the old days, when a previously-loved band would release a dud -- is that the case here? Still, it's easier to hear before buying these days. )
Are people largely referring to albums they may have heard via a friend, but did not buy? How many listens are enough to fairly judge an album? Just curious as to how so many get to condemn so many albums all of the time (and write all those negative reviews). I like about 99% of my 1200 CD collection.

I think Snakes & Arrows was the best Rush album in 14 years and FOABP may not be PT's best, but it taught me to love Deadwing. Systematic Chaos was a slight improvement above 8V, the band has lost my interest a bit so it was no disappointment anyway. Ah well, now I've reacted to 80% of the previous posts.
I think the worst thing I heard this year was Starcastle's comeback. Disappointing (I like their old records so I could have had a positive expectation) as well as downright awful.

I do not know which was the worst progressive rock album of 2007, but it was NOT Systematic Chaos. I can recommend Systematic Chaos as a traditional progressive rock fan - but not as someone who knows an awful lot about Dream Theater.

I was gonna say, did Dream Theater have a release this year? That would by default have to qualify.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
