Japanese family names frequently use ~sh*ta or sh*ta~, but it is forcefully changed to ~sh*ta or Sh*ta~. It is unkindful for foreign language.

下 owns many different ways to read.
1.sh*ta (下)
2.shimo (下)
3.ka (下)
4.ge (下)
5.kuda - ru (下る)
6.o - riru (下りる)
7.saga - ru (下がる)
8.he (下)

Also 下 is used in family name like:
山下 (Yamash*ta) やました
大下 (Osh*ta) おおした
下屋 (sh*taya) したや
杉下 (Sugish*ta) すぎした
森下 (Morish*ta) もりした
etc

This is a problem to write in this board. Why this board uses such rule?

I'm afraid you will have to live with the problem. The rules are for a purpose. That purpose is to not show profanity. (Even though you know what the word is trying to say, many people don't like to actually read it)

It also makes it difficult for us to give a formal welcome to new Japanese members - just try the entering word 'hajimemash*te'.

Wasn't there a problem once, when you couldn't spell the name of KC's record "Night-watch" because of the "t**t" word in it? The same thing with "sophomore" because of the "homo" in the middle, but I think it's been fixed by now.

And there was once a problem with spelling words "sulk", "skulk", etc., as "ulk" was always changed to "terminated". LOL

As Snow Dog says, it's the over enthusiastic profanity checker. I guess there are ways around it, others seem to find them easily enough when they want to use the targeted words.Wink
