I second that. I myself am incapable to even recognize the time signature of a song (counting is not my thing...), so I have to stick to impressions and musical references, but it is a real pleasure to read musicological comments on the songs posted here! Have been away a couple of days (hiking, partying, hiking again, partying again...) and have to listen to the nominations again - will do that tomorrow. The final top 3 decision won't be easy...

Difficult task. There were many tracks I really liked, but I decide to go for three very different ones. And so my votes go to: Meredith Monk - Anthem (very poetic piece, and the circumstances under which it was made warm my heart) The Allman Brothers - Mountain Jam (the biggest grower, very intense jam with some quite extraordinary guitar work) Karl Seglem - Springar frå fjord (especially because of the folk sections, but in general it's a very interesting style combination) Honorable mentions which I could also have voted for: Gomez - Rie's Wagon (pleasantly no-nonsense rock music with great playing and a great chorus) |

It is really a great treat to listen to the nominations playlist; for me there is no weak moment in there. Everything has something intriguing, beautiful and/or interesting for the ears to offer, so it was not easy to trim it down to a selection of three. Musically speaking, I think I could vote for Dissòi Logòi, Meredith Monk & the Vocal Ensemble and Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen. But all three are very much in the contemporary music domain (well, Dissòi Logòi probably wouldn't be catalogued there, but where would they be?) and I like my votes to reflect a bit the eclecticism of both the suggestions put up here as of my own musical tastes. In some way I could not make a pass on Marius Popp and Gomez, because it was a sheer joy to listen to these pieces too... So, a bit of contemporary music, a bit of jazz rock stewed in synthesizers, and a bit of indie rock with a solid bluesy foundation... But which one then to choose from those first three...? Je ne me tairai jamais, jamais is probably for me the most intriguing and fascinating piece of music, but it needs a lot of attention: sit down, listen, eventually read the text at the same time... It really is great, but probably not for every day. Amptruabat Redamptruabat is enchantingly beautiful in its apparent simplicity, and at the same time it is so rich. But in the end, neither of these two are as emotionally captivating as the Anthem by Meredith Monk... So, my votes go to: - Meredith Monk & The Vocal Ensemble - Anthem - Marius Popp - Inscripție - Gomez - Rie's Wagon |

Here are my top three after quite a bit of deliberation:
1. Meredith Monk - Anthem 2. Dissòi Logòi -Amptruabat Redamptruabat 3. Karl Seglem - Spingar fra fjord I wanted to put Ravel in there too, but I decided at the last minute that I'm a bit biased towards his music since he is a favorite. There were some excellent entries this time around and I had a hard time choosing.

No. 1 for me is clearly Kreng -Wrak... suitkees has the hand for the things I love really. No. 2 Dissòi Logòi - fascinating relaxed and atmospheric piece of music. No. 3 is really hard. Gomez didn't quite live up to the first go when listening to it twice more. Light Field Reverie made more of an impression after it had passed me by the first time. Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen didn't quite arrive at voting level... maybe too little time to give it at least twice the "total listening" it probably requires. Ravel... maybe a bit too sentimental for me. Quicksilver Messenger Service - lovely hippie stuff, some really nice guitar work there, doesn't miss no. 3 by far. Allman Brothers - I've got to be in the venue and see it live. Mermen - good sound and approach but could've put more ideas into the length. At the end Karl Seglem it is.

I decided to go with the decadent and voted as follows: 1. Bike Kid: The Musical - totally fun and out there, just made me feel away from any negative thoughts except being immersed in the song. 2. Kreng : Wrak - For some reason I got attached to the slow moving and haunting atmosphere and even after repeated listening, I still enjoyed it. . 3. I will be completely honest here. I cant remember my vote for this one as I was distracted and was taken away from the forums for a while. I had been pondering on 2 choices for my 3rd pick. Light Field Reverie - All Roads Lead Home or Quicksilver Messenger Service - The Fool.
