I wish to see included two BOC's albums:
Blue Oyster Cult (1972) and Secret Treaties (1974).

What are the bands you want on progarchives because they belong to the genre "Roots of prog"?
As some of us may have seen, a new genre "Roots of prog" has been added to the progarchives site. The only band in this genre that has been added until now is Deep Purple. Now it will not take long before the Beatles will enter the archives. Let the 60's revive again!!!! !! !!!! !!!!

Of course I agree, but I would add Tyranny and Mutation.
Perhaps we're a little bit afar from prog, but this music is great!

1. The albums are in no way progressive. Led Zep 3 is folk mixed in with blues and rock, nothing no one's not heard before but it's true. And "Starway to Heaven" is about the only Zep song o that album to be even close to prog. Zep was only a bit prog on Physical Graffitti, but not enough for that album to even be on this site, IMO.
2. Gatot sill wirtes excellent reviews.

i would say "house of the holy", but anyway zep isnt prog at all..

I agree that both T2 and Room should be represented here- both made superb albums for Deram/Decca in 1970, and are hugely underrated.
My band nominations:
Spooky Tooth (art rock)
String Driven Thing (art rock/symphonic prog)
Wishbone Ash (art rock)
Family (art rock)
Man (space rock)
The Gods (roots of prog)
Toe Fat (possible for a new progressive blues section)
Leafhound (art rock/ progressive blues section perhaps- Black Cat Bones are here, yet Leafhound came later with most of the members, and are more progressive than BCB)
Fairport Convention (prog folk/ roots of prog)
The Incredible String Band (prog folk/ roots of prog)
Pentangle (prog folk/ roots of prog)
Rainbow (art rock- though ONLY the Dio years!!)
Lone Star (art rock)
Ten Years After (possibly in the roots of prog section or a new 'progressive blues' section)
Be Bop Deluxe (art rock)
Patto (art rock/ jazz rock- fusion)
The Beatles (under roots of prog)
Taste (roots of prog/progressive blues)
Budgie (progressive metal/art rock)
Miles Davis (jazz rock/fusion- though ONLY the jazz fusion albums)
The Pretty Things (roots of prog- 'SF Sorrow' was one of the first concept albums)
The Pink Fairies (space rock- 'Never Never Land' matches anything done by Hawkwind imo)
Tim Buckley (left field choice maybe, but I hear much that's progressive from 'Goodbye And Hello' to 'Starsailor'- roots of prog section)
I imagine that my list will provoke mass outcries about '(insert name here) aren't prog!', but surely the whole idea of progressive music was making sounds never heard before, rather than a closed shop whereby only bands with complex time signatures or lots of keyboards are included?
I agree that bands like Vanilla Fudge, along with the addition of similar bands like Iron Butterfly and The Doors should be in the roots of prog section, and also I think that Black Sabbath's inclusion has merit, as does Zeppelin, yet the trouble is what section to put them under, and the undoubted protests from other forum members.

is there anyone left to add? We are just clutching at straws at the mo with these "very slightly prog but not really" bands.
The post rock section might need expanding with bands i dont know of that mite be prog i guess. Its not really necessary to add many more bands. Perhaps Edge of Sanity are one worth considering from the stuff i have heard, we already have Dan Swano who practically writes the majority of EOS anyway and it sounds reli proggy.

Hello Stonebeard.
1) I advise you to listen to the following very progressive rock compositions from Led Zeppelin and then asked yourself or Stairway to heaven is the only 'close to progrock' composition:
The rain song, No quarter and Kashmir, have a nice listening section!
2) I wrote "Gatot used to say" and of course that should be "Gatot uses to say", I'm also glad that he still writes his ultra-enthousiastic reviews on this site!

Sanctifica is almost impossible to classify. To call them progressive death, black, alternative, electronic, experimental metal would be confusing, somewhat accurate, but still unable to pin down a definite so! I have just one word - brilliant.

I'm going to say Incubus. Started out trying to be like Mr. Bungle and Primus (two bands already here), and managed to evolve into a Funk Rock on their 3rd album.
Lately, I've been detecting a more and more prevalent Rush-esque quality to their music. If anyone's heard their newest album (A Crow Left of the Murder), then you should be able to hear it. They've also recorded a four part song called The Oddessy for the the X-Box game Halo 2. They do have a turntablist in the band, and he is slightly overused on the earlier music, but he's now using more effects to create an atmophere. And Mike Engzinger, their guitarist, still remains one of modern rock's most creative guitar players.
And they have a wiked tight drummer, the guy who git me into playing the drums .
