King Crimson for me although this isn’t a fair competition. I’ve never heard anything from The Flower Kings that stuck with me.
I imagine a lot of folks feeling the exact opposite...it’s music after all.

King Crimson gets the vote here.

The new TFK didn't do much for me, rather tired of their sound. Ermm

Thought of that King Crimson and Island - Pictures when I saw this. I love King Crimson’s Islands (one of my very favourite KC albums), but I haven’t heard that The Flower Kings album. Will vote after I get the chance to check it out (very late here), but I’ll be very surprised if I don’t end up voting for KC.

Island’s Pictures was the first album I thought of.

First I thought of too actually. Much as I like KC’s Islands, Island’s Pictures would get my vote if they were in this poll. I will check out this TFK, though I never really got into the band.

Oh, this is not what I thought it was going to be, which makes it incredibly easy.

Had this been, as I expected, Krimson’s Islands vs Island’s Pictures, I might have had to put more thought into who I wished to vote for.

But this? This? No contest.... 😄

So I managed to listen to 25 minutes of that TFk, with some skipping through, but still a good chunk and that's all I saw on YouTube. I like it more than I was expecting to, but still I feel very comfortable voting for KC. Listening to all 93 minutes of that TFk I do think would be a chore. -- one issue I have had with TFK is that they seemed not to be believers in the less is more, show some restraint, and avoid excessive noodling camp. An editor could help. KC's Islands seems far more refined.

This is my least-favorite KC record next to ITWoP, and I haven't heard the other.

NO VOTE!!!

I love The Flower Kings, but they are no match for King Crimson, specially this album.

This is tantamount to Dad Prog v Sprog Prog. Not a Crimson album I much care for but even the death throes of a dinosaur are preferable to cataloguing yet another shiny new PA fossil.

Oh hell yeah! I get to be the contrarian this time! Flower Kings for me!

I wrote an at length review of TFK islands last year. To sum it up, i've never been a fan of the band, a lot times due to the daunting size and length of their catalog and compositions and the sound just not being for me. Like another user put it, I always grouped them in with "dad-prog" or "modern prog for old people who don't actually like modern prog." However, last year that record totally changed my mind and perception on the band, and it actually wound up being my album of the year. Even over the likes of Wobbler, Haken and Motorpsycho, which are all bands that I generally like a lot more than TFK. I love all those songs, I like that they're shorter and more easily digestible, how melodic they are, and at the end of the day, the songs just makes me happy. When it came out, it was in a time that I really could've used something just like that and it really resonated and hit the spot.

Now, I like King Crimsons islands, I don't think its perfect but there's a lot of brilliant creative ideas and songs across that record. Boz is a great vocalist too, underrated even. However, I gotta vote for the album that I actually feel like I have a deeper connection with, and today that is Flower Kings.

I can not say that it's a bad album, but they do started to recreate their sound. so I vote to KC too.

This is one where I go against the trend. TFK on this one. KC's Islands is decent enough, but the weakest album in their discography.

It's in my top three KC albums, along with Lizard and Larks. Weak or not, bad or good (which often comes down to a sort of perceived consensus when it comes to claims and sometimes is just expressed as an individual opinion of merit) doesn't interest me as long as I like it. Unlike many, I haven't really got into Discipline or post-Discipline ones.

TFK by a slight margin. Both are good (but only good) albums. But TFK has lots of ideas for this one (too many, in fact, but whatever). KC's Islands feels vert short!

Most albums would feel short when comparing to the experience of a TFK album.    Like with me, brevity and concision it might be said is not its greatest strength.
