What are your top ten Non-progressive rock bands?
You can pick proto-prog bands since prog wasn't a thing when they started.
Here's mine in no particular order:
  • The Beatles
  • Grateful Dead
  • The Police
  • Dire Straits
  • The Who
  • Allman Brothers
  • Rolling Stones
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • Eric Johnson
  • Blind Eric Cream & the Dominos Wink ( AKA All Things Clapton)

** I amended my list

Not to stir the pot here but...Non-Progressive in what manner? Their PA classification?
Many bands I don't consider 'Progressive rock" are still listed on the PA site, including bands like ASIA, Santana or Bowie. While they may display progressive tendencies they aren't PROG IMO.
That being said...

Thomas Dolby
Peter Gabriel
Santana
Joe Jackson
The Who
Police
Stewart Copland
Bowie
Billy Joel
Led Zeppelin
Robert Palmer
Queen
Saga
Sparks
Larry Gowan
Sweet
Supertramp
Talking Heads
Tomita
Tom Waits
Stevie Wonder
Frank Zappa

...just to name a few !

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

There are way too many of them, even if I go by artists who are not on Progarchives. And then, many of them might be progressive in one way or another.

Wow. In no order:

The Beatles
The Who
Led Zeppelin
REM
Black Sabbath
U2
The Rolling Stones
The Police
Styx (not quite prog imo)
Pearl Jam

Edit: I'm sure I'm forgetting some. In fact after posting this I see the Grateful Dead and the Talking Heads from others lists both of whom I forgot. I also am a big fan of 90's rock so Alice in Chains and Soundgarden(among others) would be bubbling under also.

Yea, I was kind of using the PA classifications for prog bands but there is certainly room for discussion & interpretation for many bands.
Nice list BTW.

I'm wondering why this wasn't placed in the non progressive music category(ie other music related lounges). This section is for non music discussion. Not a big deal. Just wondering how it got here. Wink

My Bad. First I put in the prog lists section by mistake. When I realized it was in the wrong place I meant to move it to the general music section and missed ( I was in a hurry) . Maybe on of the admins will move it for me.
