Last year I made a thread so as to highlight the year's finest releases. Something that came in very handy when we were compiling our lists for PAs AOTY showdown. I personally found a lot of interesting albums through that thread, which is why I am making a new one for 2015.
I've already stumbled over some real beauties, although not as many by artists featured on PA (as of yet). Pond - Man It Feels Like Space Again (One of the best I've heard this year. These guys are so incredibly infectious.) Ozric Tentacles - Technicians of the Sacred (I am really digging this far more than what I expected.) Steve Wilson - Hand.Cannot.Erase. (Yup, this one really grew on me after I saw the live gig in Copenhagen.) I'm putting Todd Rundgren, Emil Nikolaisen and Lindstrψm's Runddans collaboration in the middle here, because I strongly suspect they'll get added to the PA database in the near future. Then again there's also John Carpenter's new album Lost Themes and Public Service Broadcasting's The Race For Space - two albums that sound like they fit in here as well ![]() Outside of PA: Viet Cong - s/t (Post Punk with a snarly melody and some real balls to it) Kamasi Washington - The Epic (Spiritual jazz with a bootfull of zing!) Panda Bear - Panda Bear meets The Grim Reaper Django Django - Born Under Saturn (The Beach Boys goes electronic) The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Musique de film imaginι (Oddball album from the eternal psych wizard of Ozz) So what are your discoveries? Have you been pleasantly surprised by something (or incredibly annoyed for that matter)? -Any info on this year's releases, interesting or downright explosive, doesn't matter(although I prefer the latter) - this is surely the place to talk about it. As always, one man's sh*te is another man's gold. ![]() Edited by Guldbamsen - June 10 2015 at 16:07 |

New Jaga Jazzist is quite good, but not up to the level of One-Armed Bandit imo.

Btw Pat, did you check out the live album they recorded with the symphony orchestra? It is without a doubt my fave release from Jaga - even the tunes off One-Armed Bandit sound superior to the studio versions imo.

Man this year for prog has been very weak for me - plus 2015 has been a year where i've really dived into a lot of non-PA music like post-punk and shoegaze.
From what i heard from the new Swilson i was disappointed so that isn't on my list but the new Anekdoten, GY!BE, and Arcane have been pretty good. I gotta start finding some new stuff.

I suspect I'm gonna come to the AOTY showdown empty handed
![]() I only have Beardfish and Ghost Rhythms - Madeleine which is a great album. Oh and the mighty Dreadnaught has a new EP which is supposed to land at my doorstep anyday now.

Guapo is probably top 3 on the year so far for me, it's continues the evolution of their sound from Black Oni era through History Of Visitation to this one. It's clearly still Guapo, crushingly heavy, distinctive keyboards but Kavus' personality on guitar is more apparent. Personally I think it's as good as anything they've done from 5 Suns onwards and I love all of those.

Don't worry Sagi - we're not even halfway through 2015
![]() If the last years or so have taught me anything it's that come November/December there'll be dozens of albums I'm dying to get my hands on. All I have to do is (hopefully) to visit this thread from time to time
