we've had this discussion sooo many times, I'm sure you already knew my position, haha.  You'll recall that I voted for a certain desert critter in that classic tournament of bands...

Camel of course, they have a lot more consistence as a band and they are more emotive....ELP is only show and virtuosity.

I love a bit of pompous bombast in the morning so I voted ELP. Camel are okay but they just don't excite or engage me.

I love both. Lake has the most beautiful male voice in the history of prog, but ELP were too concentrated on technics so are sometimes a bit cold. You can't hear 7 minutes solo drums from mr. Ward, but do we need solos? Camel's music is full of feelings and images. A walk in the desert from Nimrodel to Lawrence.

Camel for many reasons but mostly for being about the music and not the personal ego trips.

ELP for me.  Camel is a fine band, but they are too mellow to really send chills down my spine like some ELP tracks do.  They also don't have a 5-star masterpiece (although I really enjoy "Mirage," "The Snow Goose," and "Moonmadness,") unlike ELP, who had the almighty "Brain Salad Surgery."

I prefer Camel, because there's only one ELP album I still listen to on occasion (their debut), the rest gets on my nerves.

I already voted on this post but I don't remember how. Today I'm for Camel Smile.

voted for ELP, their early albums are mostly all interesting,if not great. Camel has few nice works and too many mellow symphonic "sweet dreams..." music.
