Why even have these contests when we all know who will win? There can be no question: No one has the resume, the experimental history, adventurousness, or the DISTINCTIVE PROG SOUND as the Man himself.

That's not to say that I wouldn't go get something to drink during the drum solos of ANY of these guys.

I can think of one album.....Levitation by Hawkwind. |
Indeed. He's in PA as Hawkwind's drummer so he qualifies.
He should also qualify for his work with Fela Kuti but that hasn't made it to PA yet.

The only reason I like Alan White's drumming is because of two albums "Torn, Levin, and White" and "Relayer". I like his drumming off the song White Noise and Sound Chaser.

my nominees for great prog drummers
Pierluigi Calderoni of Banco Curt Cress of Passport Andy Ward Pyp Pyle Jaki Liebezeit Pierre Moerlin Christian Vander Graham Edge Ringo Starr Tony Thompson of Chic Clarence "Fuzzy" Haskins of Funkadelic
***my argument for the last 4 drummers is that anyone who has actually heard them play would heartily agree that they belong in this category

Not doing the poll but where's all the love for Portnoy? That guy is not only the busiest drummer, but his chops and technicality are mindblowing. He's certainly one of the greatest. Sorry I'm saying this a fanboy. I just don't see much love for the man.

What the hell?
You do know this thread died a death a year ago so you're all wasting your time - you can make whatever nominations you like - if the tournament was ever going to run it would have happened by now.
