So I'm going to play this game with you all. It'll be pretty fun.
Essentially, vote for your favorite prog drummers of all time using a point system. Put a 10 next to the one you want to give TEN POINTS to and a 1 next to the one you want to give ONE POINT to. Here's my list, as an example:
10. Bill Bruford(Yes, King Crimson) 9. Billy Cobham(Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra, solo) 8. Jaki Leibezeit(Can) 7. Michael Giles(King Crimson) 6. Carl Palmer(Emerson, Lake and Palmer) 5. Thomas Pridgen(The Mars Volta) 4. Brann Dailor(Mastodon) 3. Sean Reinert(Cynic) 2. Richard Christie(Death) 1. Phil Collins(Genesis, Brand X)
Since Bill Bruford is my number 1 choice, he gets 10 POINTS. Since Phil Collins is my tenth favorite drummer, he gets ONE POINT. People get confused about this, so let me reiterate: PUT A 10 NEXT TO THE DRUMMER YOU WANT TO HAVE 10 POINTS, 9 NEXT TO THE ONE YOU WANT TO HAVE 9 POINTS, ETC. Do NOT put a 1 next to your favorite drummer. Put a 1 next to your 10TH FAVORITE DRUMMER.
IMPORTANT: You MUST have no more and no less than 10 drummers on your list or your vote will NOT be counted.
ALSO IMPORTANT: Drummers from Prog Related bands like Keith Moon and John Bonham, as talented as they may be, are NOT ELIGIBLE.
Voting will go on for a few weeks or a month, depending on voter interest, and then I'll take the 25 drummers with the most points and put them in Prog Polls for Best Prog Drummer of All Time!
Get crackin', folks!

Listen, I realize that haranguing people for their opinions without contributing anything of value is sort of your modus operandi, but to call out somebody for the way they voted without voting yourself is downright laughable. Collins and Vander are tied, for the record, so it's not like there's an overwhelming conspiracy to keep Vander out of the final poll. He's pretty popular in terms of points, as a matter of fact.
And yeah, richardh, you gotta switch out Nicko for somebody else and then I'll count your vote.

Yes, exactly. I love Magma, heck I've rated 5 stars M.D.K. and I like a lot of their discography as well. But the drumming is either not very clear (M.D.K) or doesn't do much to me, although he's awesome no doubt, seeing him live through YouTube showed me that.
I did choose Phil Collins for his work with Brand X which I love, plus a lot of his fills within Genesis are great.

Deep Purple is Proto-Prog not Prog Related- I would happily argue that the first three albums and the Concerto for Group and Orchestra are full Prog and that they are not in a Prog subgenre because of their later, more successful, albums.
Whether you count the vote or not is completely irrelevant and I couldn't give a damn either way. As I am the only person who has picked him it will count for nothing anyway.
On a lighter note - I'm a bloody Admin, not some "guy" and you do not tell me what to do.

I kind of shuffle "proto prog" into "prog related" in my brain-they're both not TECHNICALLY strictly prog and it just makes things easier for me, personally if I don't have to go through and decide which pr/pp drummer is "real prog"and which aren't. And also I mean that the ENTIRE vote won't be counted, all ten, since once again it just makes things harder for me if I have to reshuffle my brain for math purposes.

The rules are the rules, by God! |
Fair enough - scratch my votes. |
...You could just change that one drummer and I'd be able to count all your votes. |
No I couldn't possibly do that. I'm more than happy to stick to my principles and boycott your poll.
|
Have it your way, my man. We would've loved to have you.

How about this: In order to satisfy everyone, I'll have a similar contest specifically for Proto-Prog/Prog Related drummers, and then the winner of that one can face whoever wins the Prog Drummers Tournament.
This was another thing I was wondering: Do you think it would be better, once all the votes were tallied, if this was done tournament style or if they were all voted on in one big batch?

10. Jaki Liebezeit 9. Christian Vander 8. Mani Neumeier 7. Tatsuya Yoshida 6. Dave Kerman 5. Daniel Denis 4. Bill Bruford 3. Klaus Schulze 2. Pierre Moerlen 1. Robert Wyatt
That should do, though the order past my top 4 (the one with 10 is our "best", right?) is pretty variable. Even those four are.

Why? Maiden are in the archives.
Nicko is a brilliant drummer and extremely underrated.
Then again maybe you were being ironic and just missed out the winky smiley face?
