In my opinion... these are the best drummers of all time  and not nessacerily because i personly like their style but because they took drumming to such an extreme level musically:

       Buddy Rich

       Billy Cobham

       Tony Williams

       Steve Gadd

       Vinnie Colaiuta

       Dave Weckl

       Virgil  Donati

       Danny Carey

As usual, you're way off base.  You can't compare his work in Asia to anything he did before with ELP or afterwards with ELP, Qango and his own band.  If you haven't heard it all, or seen him live, you really can't say that.

Carl did dumb down for Asia... he'll even tell you that.

You're in the UK... you should attend one of his masterclasses.. and then come back and tell me that...

If only I had a Time MachineWink

Actually it would be great to watch a professional like him give a clinic, but not for £20!!!!

His drumming in Asia lacks integrity....

Maybe you should watch the Asia in Asia video... I don't think his drumming with Asia lacked integrity at all.  If anything, he improved greatly the material he was given to work with...

BTW.. that video also has Greg standing in for John Wetton.  The best part is when Greg has to come out and sing a Geoff Downes song while not holding an instrument.  I've only seen him sing once before while not playing... he really doesn't know what to do with his hands...

Bill Bruford gets my vote. He is one of the most exciting and technically proficient drummers ever.

If I had to name others - Carl Palmer, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Ian Paice would lead the rest of the pack in this poll

I would tend to agree with "The Bullet" : Bruford is a living Rolex / Omega / Heuer. His sense of time is incredible and mathematical. Neil Peart, I once read, was influenced by Bruford. The fact that Phil Collins (a very close second in my opinion) got Bruford to fill in on the TOTT Genesis tours speaks volumes. Both are jazzers in their own way.

Yet again, this is art after all. We can't (and shouldn't) all agree. Music is about the right thing at the right time. Technique only helps us to achieve it, but is not an end in itself.

If we keep this near the top then this should be the last one ...hopefully.Trouble is they all seem to end the same way (just like films about The Titanic) Bruford wins every drum poll I've ever seen.At least on this one Peart is giving him a bit of a run for his money
