Neither. I'm sick of constantly hearing about both of them!

Well it's PT for me at least. DT failed to impress me since ... well it's been a while.
the last DT album to blow me away was six degrees of Inner turbulence; so, there's been a while, right?

Porcupine Tree...without a doubt. But I'm far more impressed with PT's earlier career.

Five years ago, I would have said Dream Theater. Now, its definitely Porcupine Tree. In fact, I listen to more PT than DT these days. Something about the music just kept growing on me. DT has a better initial punch, but now proves to lack staying power. Go figure. |
Exactly the same here . Though for me it would have been probably a few months ago that I would of picked DT, got familiar with PT just lately now.

I dont know about DT, it seems they're a bit corny, or a bit overated. I dont know, maybe my expectations were too high when I got my first album metropolis part two (even though its considered they're best), dont get me wrong it was excellent, but not what I was expecting from the worlds so called "greatest prog metal band". Though honestly I like TOT best (thats probably because I'm that kind of dark muzac liking person)!
Porc tree however blew me away after the first listen to FOABP! They are a very original band, different lyrics, different soundscapes, different everything from the norm! porcupine tree foe me!

PT is mostly sh*t, not progressive. It's stupid light post-rock with stupid wannabe-moments.
Though, DT isn't perfect neither. I think many dislike DT only because it's quite popular. Stupid reasons.

PT mostly sh*t? Blasphemy! Agreed, they are not always prog, but some track are VERY prog... As for the poll, I love both bands, but I pick PT simply because I never get tired of listening to them, as for DT, sometimes I get tired of them...

While I would agree that PT is mostly not very progressive (or very good), I have to say: Post-rock!? WTF? They are not even close to post-rock. Please, tell me where PT have a heavy post-rock influence.

I just got Deadwing yesterday! At this point I feel sorry for DT having to be compared with such a good band!
