Yea the title perfectly and succinctly describes the album. Real energetic explosions with some really awesome starship vibes. All with the signature Jaga grooves and sound.

Listened to Starfire again yesterday, and I have to agree with you guys, it really is great. As you said, Ian, an interesting change of direction. The added use of electronics makes it sound more futuristic and spacey, but it's still easily recognisably Jaga.

Yep agreeing with you guys big time. I have really fallen for the new Jaga Jazzist album too! Then again I live for added electronics to almost any kind of music
![]() Another one which, I admittedly only have spent a couple of weeks with, but genuinely have gone completely berserk for is the new Vespero album Fitful Slumbers. Man I'm digging the add-on of acoustic and slightly eastern sounding instruments. Still sounds like Vespero though with a brand new feel to the music. For the guys and gals who'd like to hear what a more technically gifted Tame Impala would sound like; please check out Swedish band The Amazing (yikes what a name!) and their newest Picture You. The vocals are far removed from the aforementioned Aussies and there's a folky note to the music as well, but especially the rhythm section and those 60s sounding touches remind me of them. I do think The Amazing were first (Make that Dungen!). Btw loving the new Moonbuilding 2703 AD from The Orb as well as another new electronic release in Four Tet's two epic journey Morning / Evening. Damn tasty both of them....and I've only had them for 48 hours! Rrrrrrauw |

We found Starfire last Saturday at our favourite independent music store (one of the few left standing), and of course grabbed it immediately. Truly outstanding stuff! It's a pity we missed them when they played here in June, but that was not a very good time for us. The Amazing are... amazing indeed! I didn't know they had a new album out. We'll have to look for it! |

I would imagine Micky loving The Amazing. Lots to love from a Dungen fan pov. S'got that early summer morning feel to it that the Swedes really do beautifully.

I've seen a lot of praise for the new Anekdoten, yet I am finding it exeedingly hard to get into. To me it sounds like autopilot or, if you will, their last couple of albums thrown in the blender. Maybe it'll come to me though.

A little shout-out to the folks who're into F*ck Buttons. The sideproject Blanck Mass' newest one Dumb Flesh is a most wonderful record. Beautiful melodic sways of electronics stuffed into nice little packages that ooze of this twisted and almost danceable take on 80s dark romanticism and glacial whispers.
Get it while it's hot! |

I wanna talk about how much i love the Algiers album - holy cow. So fresh sounding - just the energy, passion, and pulse put into it all, it's infectious. Pretty much a perfect blend of gospel, hip hop, and post-punk. LOVE itttt.
(Warning: briefly loud at the beginning) So far my AOTY. Edited by Horizons - August 25 2015 at 21:02 |
