perhaps a vip VP who breaks ties. I have an idea as to a person for that... a non partisan who hasn't (that I know of) really expressed a love or dislike of any bands.

Actually, I was gonna suggest discounting yours and Raff's votes if you can't find another person to play tiebreaker. Dunno how you feel about that though. It is a silly idea. LOL

What happens if any of them end in a draw? This isn't the only close run thing.

I've seen that. I don't remember if this came up years ago when the first battle of the band came up. If anyone does remember let me know and we'll do it the same way.

good question. Not sure but definitely I am not inclined to break ties myself. I am no saint and have my bias hahah. I love who I love and dislike those I do.

Likely I will ask one voter from each side to make a plea and both Raff and I will judge upon the merits and decide. No ties.. Raff and I would eventually agree to agree upon a winner based on the 'evidence'.

You mean you haven't got a rule!? Shocking!

When is the cut off point? I'm sure you have said but I don't remember (I don't recall, I've got no memory for anything at all)

A threesome might work? (snigger Evil Smile)

I have no plans.. totally seat of the pants. Planning means you have put thought into it. Anyone who knows me knows I exist and thrive when I improvise.

Each polling section goes for a week.

Detroit ends Sat. morning and then Lima kicks off for a week.
Portland ends Sun. morning and then Rome kicks off.

the weekend after that
Sat. Detroit and portland bracketts
Sun Lima and Rome brackes

continuing then weekly until we get to the final 4.

I like that. I have the perfect person in mind for that. A relatively new person to the forum who took an interest in this and helped me, yet who doesn't appear to be the decided band partisan some of us are. I do think I could be impartial but the hell with that.. it is more fun to NOT be. LOL

Alright guys. This is ridiculous. Rush has 4 albums ranked in PA's top 40. Le Orme has one album in the top 100. There really cannot be more proggers who prefer Le Orme over Rush.

I am surprised to see so many Le Orme fans, but I suppose there are those without preference who simply want to see the underdog win and voted that way. Honestly Scott, I figured Rush would have overtaken Le Orme by now. However if one was simply to judge the groups by the body of work, forget the album lists here, Le Orme had as good if not better run of prog material than Rush did. Rush really didn't hit the big time until they left prog behind. I enjoy the HELL out of their prog material, and love the group FOR it, but I would really never consider it quality. More fun than anything to hear the chesey ass lyrics, geek prog personified, and really killer heavy prog but Le Orme, like many of the Italians in addition to the bite gave a sense of taste and refinement toallly missing from early Rush.

btw. Some clappies. Clap Clap About time someone from the Rush camp stepped up and took offense to these results. If this had been ELP instead of Rush the forum would be awash in burned out threads and overturned pollls. LOL Rush should inspired as much if not more love than poor old reviled ELP shouldn't it? Clap

While Rush has many fans, it also has many detractors. I would think that Le Orme's music would appeal to a wider variety of people into classic Prog, even though it is not as widely known. I'd be surprised if some voting for Le Orme are not really just voting against Rush.

I don't think that the album rankings always are a great indication of what today's people in the forum think, anyway. In this case, people have tracks to judge by even if they don't have full albums.

I expect that regular forum members generally have far more varied and vast progressive rock collections than those who came here just to rate and review their favourites. Rush is really well-known, and a lot of people would have come to PA primarily to rate their albums. Many of those of us in the forums get exposed to a wide variety of music. And fashions rather change... ELP was more popular here when I joined as I remember it. It was even popular with me!

I used to love Rush, especially early Rush (still listen to Caress of Steel now and then), but I went off it. Le Orme is hardly my favourite RPI band, though it was the first I really got into (got loads of their albums). I have mostly gone off Le Orme since it's generally too bombastic for my tastes now (as with ELP), but I honestly expect that if Italian wasn't an issue with people and all those classic Prog fans who knew Rush's classic albums also knew Le Orme's classic albums, then Le Orme would be more popular amongst the hardcore Proggers than Rush (we are pretty hardcore proggers in the PA forums generally). Maybe not, though. Collage through Contrappunti are classics.

I would hope that those who vote in these polls at least try to listen to music by both before they vote, and then come to a decision. And I would also hope that they vote FOR an act rather vote as an act AGAINST an act.

Most of my favourite albums have far fewer ratings than Le Orme's top-rated albums, but then I know that my tastes are hardly mainstream even in Prog circles.

By the way, for me there are many Canadian bands better than Rush (especially hailing from Quebec), but of course that's dependent on my tastes.

A lot of people hate Rush due to the Ethyl Merman-on-helium singer as well as the remedial level Philosophy lyrics.

I don't want to start slinging mud like a politician, but a vote for Le Orme is like a vote for Love Beach.

Le Orme Collage album coverEmerson Lake & Palmer Love Beach album cover Wink

From Greg (Logan): I honestly expect that if Italian wasn't an issue with people and all those classic Prog fans who knew Rush's classic albums also knew Le Orme's classic albums, then Le Orme would be more popular amongst the hardcore Proggers than Rush (we are pretty hardcore proggers in the PA forums generally).

I can't deny that my single lingual issues do have an effect on my ability to listen to RPI musicians. Before today, I will admit that I have only heard a handful of songs from Le Orme. Today, I listened to their first two albums and in spite of not understanding a word that was sung I thought that they were both quite good. I think I actually liked the debut album more, but my understanding is that is not reflective of their future sound. At any rate, enjoyable enough to want to try out some additional albums from them. I don't believe that I am going to be changing my user name anytime soon as a result of these listens, but I think that I am going to be glad that I am giving them a go.

hahhaha. Clap Yeah.. let's say Le Orme REALLY stepped up their album covers after Collage

For the longest time I couldn't even look at it close enough or long enough to realize it wasn't a tennis racket that was being held. LOL

Scott, love the pics. I like the religious iconography of the Collage one, but then ELP is practically a religion for some (imagine them on that Beach with halos, hairy chests, camel-toe.... Like with a funnny old DT photoshop job, could put the biggest halo around Emerson's male camel-toe). I actually like Le Orme's debut a lot. There is an English language version of Felona e Sorona which I would recommend to you (that is their most beloved album I would say) if you can find it streaming.

I don't like the Enlsish language version nearly as much (I love the sound of Italians singing in Italian), but then l'm more about sound than lyrics. I'm mostly an instrumental guy, but most of the songs I like don't have English lyrics (plenty of folk and Cantebury album where the lyrics are important to me, though).

By the way, I've just played Fly By Night after a long time (dug out my old record) and it still rocks. Early Rush has some balls that I kind of think got a little neutered later on. Which is funny, cause Geddy Lee sounds more like he'd been neutered early on.

If its a draw then I think Le Orme should lose purely on the basis of bad taste (for album covers) . I mean who thought that was a good idea - any of it? Bare chests, white stuff, tennis racket (with no strings), religeous connotations, erm dodgy facial hair, er everything what were they thinking. (drugs?).
